Red Velvet would have won regardless of whether Winner was there. They usually give out multiple rookie awards, one to a boy group, another to a girl group and another to a solo act. Red Velvet did the best out of the female rookie groups, so yes, thy did deserve the award. If they're going to bitch about stuff and drag other groups, at least make sure you're bashing the right group. Every year rookie award is given to three categories: male group, female group and a solo singer. Last year the winners were: Bangtan Boys, Crayon Pop and Lim Kim. This year GOT7 won rookie for male group, Red Velvet for female group and Eddy Kim for solo singer. GOT7 and Winner were close (Winner had a small advantage considering public vote +sales, 2 points ahead GOT7), the jury vote made the difference. When EXO-K won it, B.A.P won it too. Plus, it would not be the 1st time they gave 4 awards. I see that the KBS/YG thing was probably the main reason. Not sure where people are getting the 'one boy group, one girl group, one soloist' thing from. And Winner got the most points in the categories that SMA set out themselves, that's where the surprise comes from. But as a bunch of Winner fans have already said in this thread, congrats to the winners. I'm sure a lot of fans are still disappointed since SMA actually had fans vote for over a month on this (and spend money on the voting, from what the k-fans are saying), but plenty have accepted it and moved on, too. When EXO-K won I think they didn't give an award to a rookie female group, they chose two male groups and two solo singers. They could have given to both GOT7 and Winner and not give to female group. I don't know what rules they have or if they set new rules and gives award to male/female groups and solo singer. Pity they didn't offer and explanation, there is a lack of transparency. Even with 0 points from the jury, Winner should have been ahead of Red Velvet so maybe they set a new rule and give awards to those three categories and for male group the jury preferred Got7 this time.
