Supernatural spinoff is in works

Nine seasons in and Supernatural is expanding its cult empire.

A spinoff of the long-running drama, which stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, is being developed at the CW, executive producer Bob Singer revealed to reporters at San Diego Comic-Con 2013 on Sunday.

The network plans to introduce the potential series as a backdoor pilot in episode 20, which will be written by Andrew Dabb.

The spinoff, however, will not be centered on a character Supernatural fans know and love but on a new character introduced in the episode, who will then anchor the new series, should it be picked up. While details are slim, the series is said to have a more urban feel than Supernatural

This isn't the first time the CW has decided to work on a spinoff of one of their popular series: The Originals, which focuses on three characters from The Vampire Diaries, premieres this fall.

Supernatural returns for its 9th season on Tuesday, Oct. 15 on the CW.

if by urban they mean black right?

lol my first thought too

it will be a standard CW flop regardless probs... but even more so if it's "urban" ... they for sure don't have that demo on CW. They know it too... which is why CW shows are mostly white washed as hell... They dumped their UPN residual shows off on BET as quickly as possible back in the day.

I never got into Supernatural tbh.... i know it's a big bread winner for a very weak and unstable network...but I couldn't stay/get interested enough to really watch it. Seen a few episodes from earlier seasons though, and i know it's a pretty well done series...but a spin-off seems... i dunno... clingy...like they've got to milk the franchise bone dry.

The Originals is what i'm looking forward too. Phoebe Tonkin fan for one...but also a really logical spinoff of a series that hasn't run it's course yet.

Andrew Dabb has written quite a few of my favorite episodes of Supernatural but it doesn't make any sense to create or develop a spin off of the series. Supernatural is developed and focused on the relationship between Sam and Dean. Sam and Dean are the only consistent and prominent characters in the series outside of Cas and Bobby but they essentially aren't as important as Sam and Dean. Don't think anyone is going to watch a series that is loosely based or connected to Supernatural especially if it doesn't include or have any relation to Sam and Dean. Supernatural has essentially killed off any character that would made for a solid spin off and them introducing a character just to have a spin off doesn't make any sense especially in the 10th season of the series. The CW has been making way too many bad decisions as of late especially with cancelling The Secret Circle and Cult.Spent the last nine years watching Supernatural and just don't see a spin off functioning or even remotely working.
