Usually with Windows the rule is "Skip 1 version and you'll be fine" It's like they release a beta in between versions to see what needs to be fixed and then the next one is actually worth your money. If people don't want to pay for it I assume they must be able to revert. the article says Microsoft said that the free upgrade will be valid for the first year immediately after the release; if you upgrade during that time, you’ll get Windows 10 for free, for the “lifetime†of your device. But of course I have a year to try it out somewhere else. And honestly my demands on what I want out of an OS aren't that high. So I was actually using XP Pro up until they discontinued support. But being forced to switch kind of sucks. OTOH there's no way (????) my current device will last until win8 support is discontinued anyway, so....
