Rapper Dok2 talked about the difficult times he experienced in the past, before becoming his current successful self.

On the January 20 episode of Mnet’s “4 Things Show,†Dok2 revealed that he used to live in a container box.

On this day, as he was talking about his relationship with Double K, Dok2 said, “We used to hang out when I used to live in a container box.†He added, “Things were bad financially since I was young. I did not want to commit crimes, and I wanted to succeed in an honorable way with my rapping and my music.â€

Dok2 also surprised the viewers by saying, “When I used to live in a container box, I had so little money that I was even kicked out of my company.†He then said, “That was the time I really practiced music a lot. I didn’t have any money, and all I had as my computer, so I had nothing else to do but music. I worked hard and came this far because I wanted to let Double K hear my music.â€

Meanwhile, “4 Things Show†is a program that conducts interviews with the celebrities as well as those around them so that their true selves can be revealed. It closely follows the celebrity’s life, and shows the honest, human side of celebrities.

so... my question is why doesn't he rap about that instead of money, hoes and cars 98% of the time... :derp:

Put some non-superficial truth in your raps brah.. (tho I admit ill is 1 of my fave turn up songs but sometimes... it's good to switch up your lyrical content from just the same old story of "i gots monies and the hoes want to fk me in my brand new benz and all these other rappers is copyings me")

i've always had a theory about this, and this is a relation to all rappers not just dok2

i notice a lot of poor rappers or rappers from those backgrounds/still in that lifestyle tend

to rap about those things because those are things that they coveted so much. they wanted

the money, the power, the gold chains and nice rings, so it became an anthem to them. i don't

know if i'm making any sense, as this is my beef with the song "royals" as it critiques the "shallowness"

of raps without trying to examine where these rappers come from and why those indulgences would

be so important to them.

also it's just way funner to sing about those things lbr

I see your point but eminem didn't get where he is singing about that stuff.. many of these rappers say they look up to people such as eminem, tupac, biggie smalls.. I must admit at some points yes they sang about those stuff but what made them who they are is their versatility.. i'm not saying it's not okay to sing about that stuff once in a while you know..we all boast once in a while but it becomes roll eye worthy when it's all anyone is singing about.. this is why eminem is still one of the strongest rappers in the game because even though he's like what shitload rich he doesn't rap about it 98% of the time. You can't better yourself if you're sticking in the same old corner what I find about ddok2 since hearing this is that he's become complacent because rapping about that stuff is what earns him money, if he was really about his music he would branch out in other topics.. it's okay to sing about "Started from nothing came up to something." but all around he's just a boastful guy (his ig can back up this statement)
