Camera / Lens for simple shots?

Any photographers here? I'm looking to take some photos of myself (just for a blog/instagram) and I want them to be in better quality than an Iphone camera. I'm not looking for anything amazing, just an inexpensive way to take good photos.

This is my instagram - http://instagram.com/massaciofashion(follow if you want :imstupid: ) As you can see the two photos are low quality.

I'll hopefully be taking photos outside as well. I'm not looking to spend a lot though as I don't see myself as a photographer.

Thanks

what sort of effects do you want?

Do you want a camera with a zoom function?

Are you interested in having shallow depth of field? -- so one object looks blurry when you're focusing on something else?

like this

I'm not too bothered about effects really. I mean that photo looks good, but its not what I need for my photos.

A zoom function would be good but not necessary, I'm just looking for a camera that can shoot good quality photos.

Here is an example

a kit camera would be adequate tbh. Or random point and shoots too.

understanding light, shadows and composition is more important though imo for good pics.

And that one was edited.

I'll google Kit camera's. I've heard online about Nikon and Canon, are they too advanced for what I want?

Yeah I'll probably end up editing my photos too so that's fine.
