Trends set by YG first which other companies now also follow:

  • Mini albums
  • Digital singles
  • Family/Company Concerts (YG's One Concert in 2003 was the first)
  • Family/Company Albums (July 1999)
  • Double title tracks, all title tracks
Source: Instiz

[1] "Wow I wasn't aware of most of these."

[2] "It was really fresh and new when they came out with those double title tracks."

[3] "Wow, even a digital single and family concerts..."

[4] "YG was really the first to come out with double and even triple title tracks."

[5] "I read this from an interview of a YG producer.  They said they don't get their songs from other people.  It's their own producers or their own artists who spend months to years pouring their heart and soul and investing money and energy to make these songs.  So to release 10 of these songs in a full-length album at the same time seemed like a bit of a waste.  That's why they planned mini-albums and digital singles to showcase each song."

[6] "People might get confused but they changed their company concert to 'YG Family Concert' since 2010.  Before that they called it 'YG ONE Concert'.

[7] "I thought the list would include survival shows ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹"

[8] "I thought it was SM that was first but both companies are amazing."

[9] "Because of those mini-albums........ just how long must we wait for a full Big Bang album?"

[10] "As expected of YG.... no wonder he's earning so much money"

[11] "Thinking of Yang Hyun Suk makes me shudder... but you gotta admit that he's smart.  I feel like other companies are also thinking of debuting their trainees through survival programs now too."

[12] "They're also the first to have their trainees do everything except for debuting."

Mini albums? Digital singles?  :wut:

As far as I know Mini Albums = EPs and digital singles are something that has been around before YG decided to do it and they are certainly not invented in Korea. The only difference is that in Korea idols receive full promotion for a mini or even a single while here in the us or in the uk not.

No one ever claimed they invented it or the idea/concept of using it. However, they were the ones that made it popular in Korea.
