JWK 4,304
Innocent and Fresh Girl Group Concepts.. a Homage or Limitation [Oh!Sen Focus] Translated by JWK @ Onehallyu.com Are innocent and fresh concepts a homage or limitation? Another girl group with an innocent concept debuted. After releasing their debut song and MV, “GFriend†reminded many people of SNSD. To be exact, the SNSD from their debut days and not the current SNSD. GFriend’s debut song ‘Glass Bead' reminded people of SNSD when they sang “Into the New World†because of the similarities. A couple members’ visuals reminded some of SNSD members. 'Glass Bead' feels like it captures the innocence and freshness of a female student who’s in their teenage years. With miniskirts and kicking choreography, along with other similarities, it reminds people of SNSD. The lyrics, of course, talk about love and of an upbeat girl that is gentle in appearance, but sturdy in spirit. That’s why some people call it the “Into the New Bead†In theory, there are a lot of genres that exists, but current k-pop world, the concept that catches the most attention for a girl group is a sexy concept. Some groups might not be able escape the controversy surrounding this genre, but it can also be used to market themselves. Anyways, in this situation there is a way to catch the attention of public’s eye with an innocent concept. Since it’s a “rare itemâ€, the possibly of fans staying loyal is high. After starting with an innocent concept, the group moves towards a sexy side or other genres, as they might seek to change their image. If they don’t differ greatly from their earlier concepts, then they might have their own unique color. But there are limitations (?) for innocent concepts by girl groups. It’s hard to surpass the original innocent concepts. Right now, the representative of innocent and lovely girl group, A Pink, is compared to S.E.S because of the similarities in the songs. Because of this, it might be why A Pink might be appealing to the public. Another limitation is age. GFriend’s average is is 18.1 years old. According to one person in the music industry, “people in their teenage years have a hard time pulling off an excessively sexy concept. Looking cute while wearing school uniforms and doing sexy dances, or a teenage image have been done already.†“That’s why there will always be an image where it’s similar. In fact, there’s not much concepts that a teenage girl group can do, and that’s why the concepts are called “paying homage with a reason†for this particular reason. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [+2881, -132] In all honesty, I want a girl group like Mamamoo who’s trying to go head to head with their singing abilities. [+2116, -33] What the, some idols’ class are no different than ordinary people. [+1734, -35] ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹, the issue is that everyone is becoming an idol [+1689, -129] Wonder girls, 2NE1, SNSD, F(x)’s concepts were the best… [+1443, -68] Isn’t there any limitation on sexy concepts? Now, they might do a hand stand without wearing any underwear, and move their bodies right, left, front, back, front, and back [+349, -57] Why does people say people copy A Pink when girl groups do innocent concepts? A Pink also got a lot of hate for copying ses. ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ I mean, I don’t like them but if you read what people say, it make it seem like A Pink started innocent concept. [+239, -5] “GFriend†ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ oh my god ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ date “Boyfriend†[+220, -14] GFriend pretty much copied SNSD’s song, Lovelyz’ concept, and A Pink’s MV concept. [+254, -48] Don’t just attach SNSD’s name with them, their class is different. 7

Taka 444
I don't mind if they are ONLY use innocent concept because innocent concept is not owned by certain group, everyone can use this concept. But the problem are they use a REALLY similar concept like Lovelyz, REALLY similar song like ITNW and Apink. And their fans playing as victim to escape from this issue. How do you know that? And how about their song that sound like a mixed of SNSD and Apink. Just because they use innocent concept doesn't mean they need to make it really similar with SNSD and Apink. You still can use innocent concept without following certain groups. One thing for sure they are really lack of creativity. kpoopoo 1,310
[+220, -14] GFriend pretty much copied SNSD’s song, Lovelyz’ concept, and A Pink’s MV concept. i don't think lovelyz is established enough to own a concept tho? plus i doubt lovelyz is gonna stick with the schoolgirl concept, knowing woollim. concepts really only should last one comeback anyways. also what is apink's mv concept? isn't that just a cute mv? i don't think apink owns that either? Because there are videos of them watching their dance practice (where they were in school uniforms) + bts photos from their MV filming back in September. They also posted this in October aka before Lovelyz debuted. What's similar to A Pink? I love them but I don't get it. The MV set and concept REALLY similar with Lovelyz. The outfit REALLY similar with SNSD ITNW. The dance it's a mixed of ITNW and No No No. The song it's a mixed of SNSD and Apink, It's sound like ITNW + typical Apink ad libs.
Cheesus 2,327
Those that say it's a homage or copying snsd, needs to know the meaning of it before using it. Who cares if the concept is similar, as long as the music is good then it's fine.

satoori 45,814
I really do not understand this idea of groups creating a concept. How do you create something that already exist? To be honest, the only type of music/concept that has been created when specifically looking at the korean music industry, is trot. The cute/ innocent or strong/powerful concept have long been created and used by other countries. So there no one kpop group that created it. I just do not think its fair to use "copying a concept" between k-pop groups as an argument. We should instead focus on arguing about talent. ok i'm done venting...
