What is okay and what is not okay to joke about?

Where or what lines do you draw for topics of jokes? Are you one of those people who gets uptight over taboo things or are you more open and think everything is fair game? Should it be all or nothing in terms of acceptability?

I think it's "okay" to joke about whatever you want to, free speech and all that... whether or not you should depends on context though.

Yeah exactly this. You just need to be aware of the contexts and all before making jokes. If you know it's wrong or will cause offence then don't.

I definitely belong to the "more open and think everything is fair game?" category

Watching stand up comedy or some other stuff on Youtube I have thought quite often that omg I must be really messed up or horrible person for laughing at that or finding it funny.

It's not quite the same thing, but this thing with drawing Muhammad recently in protest is kinda similar. Lots of people are just drawing him in normal or harmless situations to show their disapproval of censorship and terrorism, not specifically to cause offense. Some people are drawing him in really fucked up ways (like getting raped in the ass by a pig) because they want to cause as much offense as possible. Just because you can doesn't mean you should  :omgwtf:

Jokes only funny if everyone is laughing

Song's only good if everyone is jamming.

Painting's only good if everyone is impressed.

Book's only good if everyone wants to read the sequel.

I think most things are up for grabs in terms of jokes. However, I cross the line at death jokes.

That is not cool at all.

For example... "OH MY GAWD HES DEAD, I'M SO GLAD LOL

OMO DEATH IS SO FUNNY

LAWL WHO CARES IF YOU DIE DEATH IS FUN

HES DEAD LMFAO"

Those aren't jokes though? Those are just laughing at death, as if death is the joke  :._.:

it depends on who you're joking with ...

if you want to throw a random joke about fat people and there's one or a couple people present ...

99% they will not take it as a joke but offended ..

or a mama's boy joke, some black jokes .. etc ...

It all depends on who you are conversing with ..

the saying is true, it's a fun and dandy when the joke is not pointing at you ...

Everything. Literally everything can be made fun of and I laugh at everything. Dark humor, morbid jokes, racist jokes, religious jokes. I will laugh at every joke because they are just that: jokes.

People are way too uptight. Nothing is sacred enough not to be joked about.

death jokes don't really cross the line though. unless you're talking about wishing death upon someone and making fun of someone who's died recently

Ehhh I guess I'm pretty open. There's not really much I get uptight about that I've heard joke about. My few trigger points are people making fun of a race, raping someone or anything abusive, and if someone jokes to much with me about things I don't like about myself. Other than those, I don't really have much of a bad reaction about jokes people say or I just give them a side-eye and move on.
