A Third Of Male Students Say They’d Rape A Woman If There Were No Consequences, A Study Reveals

Just an article i found... it may not be 100% reliable.  :omg:

It was most likely conducted in the University of North Dakota. The primary researcher's from there -- sounds like a learned institution  :unimpressed:

Sexual assault and rape are issues that affect a large number students – but a recent study found that many male students are unaware of what rape actually is.

In a study led by professor Sarah Edwards and published in Violence and Gender,86 straight male American college students filled in several different surveys and were asked to self-report their likelihood to engage in certain types of sexual behaviour – including forcing a female to do something sexual she does not want to, and rape – â€if nobody would ever know and there wouldn’t be any consequencesâ€.
One-third of participants (31.7%) said they would force a woman to have sexual intercourse in a “consequence-free situation†– and many wouldn’t label or recognise their actions as “rapeâ€. Moreover, 13.6% of participants said they would rape a woman.

As part of the study, the researchers addressed the level of hostility the participants showed towards women and whether that played a role in the outcome of the results.

They read the students a series of statements such as â€I feel that many women flirt with men just to tease them and hurt them†and â€I am easily angered by womenâ€, and made judgments from their results depending on how high they agreed or disagreed.
The researchers also asked questions to assess the participants’ levels of “hypermasculinityâ€, such as whether they viewed danger as “exciting†and if they considered violence “manlyâ€. The researchers said they asked these questions to determine the “contribution of callous sexual attitudes to likelihood to commit sexual assaultâ€.

The study concludes that there is no “one-size-fits-all†approach to sexual assault prevention.

It notes that men who are hostile towards women would not benefit from “primary†efforts from colleges to prevent sexual assault on campuses. However, the men who “endorse force but deny rape†could benefit from these efforts, “as long as the programming can establish rapport and credibility with participantsâ€.
The researchers said that it is important to dispel the idea of a “stereotypical rapist†as those who “endorse force but deny rape†would fail to identify with the behaviour, which would ultimately lead to less effective rape-prevention programming efforts.

They should also conduct research on the same case but with reversed pair of gender: "Would women rape men if there were no consequences?" Because, there are cases of men raped by women too. And by rape here I mean "engaging in a sexual behavior that he does not want to/he does not give consent to".

I said so to avoid double standards, which is very likely to occur. Why? I fear that this kind of "study" will put one particular gender in a tight situation or at loss. Or worse, this kind of "study" may be used for some kind of propaganda. Call me paranoid, but we can never be really ignorant these days.

Yes, we should not believe anything we read/hear in the internet, but I still see some people falling for the trap, no matter what.

Plus: I do not defend both men and women who have tendency to rape, with or without consequences for their disgusting action of rape. Please do not disregard my post as a sign that I defend those guys.

Edit: I guess I can never really discuss about things like this here in OH without getting negged. Yikes.

Buzzfeed...

This "study" has a very small sample size, and I do wonder what the picking methodology was. Why they only did this to men is also very telling of the intentions here.

There's also the fact that if you asked most of the population if they would do illegal things if they had no consequences, something tells me a significant percentage would say yes.

Rape is awful and rapists should rot in jail, but honestly it seems like they're doubling down on the "men are rapists" narrative, after the UVA rape story, which so many people rallied behind, turned out to be a hoax.

This statistic.. Is what stuck out to me.. And is incessantly replaying in my mind.. 31.7 motherfucking percent of men who answered, basically admitted that they would engage in a depraved act such as rape, if there were no consequences.. That is fucking disgusting, they are essentially saying that what stops them, is not their conscience or moral compass, but rather society's reaction to the act.. I am appalled and disgusted. This statistic is too high.. Too motherfucking high.

Ladies, load your guns.

Rape is a paraphilia. Men are 20 times more prone to have paraphilias than women. I know we shouldn't blame men for everything, but it's a fact that men are way more prone to be sexually violent than women. Women are mostly the victims from any kinds of sexual attacks, and the perpetrators are mostly men.

It might have to do with the difference of genders (yes, men and women are different, and will always be), something makes men to be more inclined to violence and abuse. Also, 90% of violent crimes are commited by men.

But it's a fact that men are way likely to have some kind of paraphilia, hence why the awareness efforts about sexual abuse should be focused on them the most.
