The decline of sexy concepts with the next generation of idols

2014 was an effective death knell on the sexy concept. From choreo changes to every sexy concept, the winning streaks that A Pink enjoyed that proves you can maintain a certain concept, or the viewcount of 19+ videos no longer counting on the music shows. Sexy concepts are seeing a decline in what they can do. The image of 2011 defining Kpop as Jpop's mature sexier sister is quickly destroyed in 2015 as Lovelyz, Gfriend and Laboum aims to be cute concept groups without changing. Much like japanese idols without the copyright laws or crooked teeth. If the companies realize how they can make a sustainable system they can keep their idols pure and innocent until they hit 25. Then you retire and replace them.

Sexy concepts are also growing increasingly conservative with few exceptions. Waist high pants are now the standard to demonstrate Koreas approach to acceptable sex appeal. Bikini concepts prove to be utter duds to the pleasure of netizens. Sexy concepts exists only to prevent certain fans from abandoning kpop but we are better off without them anyway.

The sexy concept is dead folks! Welcome the new era of idos!

Then how the hell does jidols maintain being cute. Dont think the korean execs are taking notes from how jidols sell so well withour ever having their idols break out the red lipstick and black dress with revealing slits. They can just advertise to the fandom to encourage purity values.

The sexy concept will always prevail because there are a lot of lonely, horny men out there. The shelf life of a sexy girl group is very limited, however, so they will need to leave it behind eventually.

The problem with the cute concept is that Korea has never really ever given a rat's ass about more than one or two cute girl groups at any given time. A Pink has that concept locked in, so the others who are trying to follow suit are doomed to fail. Then we have Orange Caramel. They are second to A Pink, and seeing as how the general public loves them, it'll be hard for anyone else to succeed.

But Japan shows you can maintain it for every idol group. All you need is a large fandom that shames those like sexy concepts as creepier than those that like sexy concepts

And shelf life can be extended by replacing the girls

err idk maybe cute can help girl groups who already supported by a major label like Apink but if 2014 proved anything for smaller label groups is the power sexy concepts can have in bringing their careers to new heights as its done for AOA and EXID, and even lesser successful groups like STELLAR even managed to crack the Top 50 for the 1st time because of a sexy concept.

Girl's Day is one of the few groups i know who started off strictly cute when making their mark with Twinkle Twinkle only to slowly dip down the charts with each new release until finally SKYROCKETING back up with Expectations - Female President - Something

it's all a cycle. when new groups debut, it makes sense for them to start off with an innocent concept, because having them 'grow up' i.e. be sexy is an easy way for the company to show that the group is developing.

a pink will do a sexy concept sooner or later, as will lovelyz and whatever other gg debuted around this era. then it will be the sexy era once again, until a new wave of ggs start debuting.

They could take notes from Japan's idol system on how to maintain a cute concept and no longer having to cater to the whims of the sexy concept fans.

Why are you bringing Japan idols too much on this? They are different, the root of the concept are different, and the interest of japanese and korean people are also different.

Japanese, they are more into anime and manga things, even japanese guys in his early adulthood (20+) still loves moe and loli girls, because of anime influence. Thats the reason why Japanese idol girl groups having cute members around the age of 15. And there is also 'graduation' system for Japanese girl groups.

If not many korean guys find cute underage girls attractive, then Kpop cant follow them. Girl groups with cute concept will also be limited because of that. It is all depends on the market, what their people likes

I dont get what's wrong with sexy concept.

We have cute and sexy for everyone out thete. You can choose. No one force them on you.

Sexy concepts wont go away. Because they are good anyway and korean and many international fans are into that. Cute is too local tbh. Most ppl in western wouldnt like that because it is too immature and pretending

Because cultural manipulation. Kpop bends to the views of netizens. Netizens who believes all sexy concepts are always will demand cute concepts only.

it's about time we stepped away from those concepts.... that girl group that was gyrating their kitties in the air.. was too much.. for me nty I do not want your muff in my face...

I think this probably showed the biggest problem with the so called 'sexy' concept.

It turned more into a let's see who can cause the most shock and get the most attention from it.

If that's what it's always going to be like, then I prefer that we see the 'cute' concept instead.

I really hope there will be a new concept that will come out this year that we've never seen before.

NGL I think a whole new concept will come from YG's nugu if they ever debut.
