A Pink might be the contender for their title but its still too early to say. They would also have to switch up their style at some point to be prominent overseas. í—�! 8,234 Posted January 13, 2015 Share Posted January 13, 2015 SNSD is still indisputably the most popular girl group in Korea in terms of fandom and brand power, but musically, they have lost quite a lot of appeal (which doesn't REALLY matter since they didn't get to where they are now just from music alone). The problem with Girls' Generation is that their ''Girl next door image'' is really what made them SUPER popular and now that they've ditched it and went with a more.... ''girl power'' and ''fierce'' image... they have lost quite a lot of appeal, and it's FAR too late for them to go back to it as well, so they're in a VERY complicated situation. I also feel like SM doesn't even actually know what musical direction that they should head in with SNSD either. About there NEVER being a girl group like SNSD again... that part is definitely true and probably will ALWAYS be true. I don't think there will ever be another girl group who took over Korea like they did. This ^ Personally, I think it's harder now b/c the idol market is so saturated but at the same time people still have a lot of interest in Big 3 Groups. Like back in the late 2000s, there definitely weren't as many idol debuts as there are now. When girl groups like SNSD are monopolizing so many potential fans, I think it's harder for newer groups to gain fans. I'm not sure if a girl group can achieve the level of public recognition/fame that SNSD has... like you would have to do so many things right to get to that point. I'm also pretty sure that no girl group will have a fanbase as large as SNSD had in 2011, and that no girl group will be able to surpass their (and other group's) sales in Japan, since the market there is not what it used to be. I've read that the people thought the same when SES was around and boom! SNSD Came along. I'm not implying SNSD's position will be "stolen". Just like SES is still respected, I'm sure SNSD will be respected, too, but there will have to come a time when a newer girl group comes by and becomes the it gg. It is too difficult for girl groups to amass this type of fame... this is historically true in all music industries... far easier for males. And since kpop is one of the trendiest and most fickle music industries around... it will be even more difficult. There's no real formula there at all.
