What he said was:

" Thank you to a lot of people who wrote (my) album preview. if i can make one request without hesitation to those who listen to my songs, as a part of the music industry, i think it will be a pity if the album cd market is dying. i also got used to the changing distribution process and listening to music with cd was forgotten bit by bit. when i was preparing for my album, i thought deeply, "the person who makes music shouldn't not remind the difference between listening online and listening with cd to his/her listener.behind that meaning i’ve made cookie track that can only be listened with cd. what i realized about the changing world is, such as the market situation right now, if listeners can’t be detailed with the differences made between listening with online streaming and listening with cd, i think album cd market will be disappeared in the end. that’s why the song that ends up on the album, which i really love, wasn’t released online. if you’ve like the released song let’s go to the album’s ending (song) together. i don’t know when the album cd will really disappear as time has passed but, if you find it pitiful then don’t just agree with it and let’s do it together. also, please, know the effort of saving the disappearing album cd market. once again: thank you all the people who have written reviews and listened to my music! looking at my posts i think (they) might be read as: "please.... buy my album." that’s completely not the meaning. It would be what you’d do if you have a song or singer that you like. you’d also love the album. ^^ it’d be good if you also gave interest to my album. ♡ there are a lot of people who asked about the meaning of cookie track! a credit video that comes out after (a) movie has ended, you know, it’s called a cookie video, right? it (the cookie track) is based on that. the moment when i thought all the album’s tracks had been done! i released one more song where both the album’s epilogue and monologue are in there."

(the quote above was translated by: bysagyehan)

[+11750, -3301I don't think thats something an SM idol could talk about

[+9606, -3042What are you worrying about when you have crazy fans who would buy (your CDs)

[+7889, -2823Because of your crazy fans...

[
+7130, -2384So is that why you guys are turning a lot to the acting industry...

[+2321, -530] Even when the crazy fans are buying the CDs it's like this. If the crazy fans didn't buy the CDs, the market is already failing but it will still be there even if it's failing. What Jonghyun is trying to say it that's how bad the physical cd market is right now. If you like my songs how would you like to buy my cd. And in this way the conclusion is that let's live while giving some attention to the physical cd market that's turning badly. Thats his point. Are there no one else besides these twisted people?

[+2215, -530] He talked about his opinions really well what's up with all the comments...

[+1830, -239] I could relate to what Jonghyun is saying... to be honest who listens to music through CDs lately.. we could listen to everything through our phones...

Just because SM artists excel over other companies artists in the Physical Sales category... doesn't mean that they themselves can't do better... The physical market IS dying and that's just a fact. I for one am not a fan of this as for me, the feeling of having your favorite groups' album in your hands are far greater than downloading them digitally off a music provider...

[+7130, -2384So is that why you guys are turning a lot to the acting industry...

Ignorant. Album sales barely even covers the costs of album production + promotion fees... (Even if they were to sell millions - this would be to assume that the physical market wasn't dying). Idols just go into acting because that's just another branch of entertainment... and being performers, I don't see why this wouldn't be expected... and some might just have a genuine interest in acting.

It will always be a pleasure for me to go and buy the physical version of an album. The feeling you get when it's finally there with the little book and when you put it on your stereo or your car its awesome. Having everything at hand of course has its benefits but still having the physical version its glory for those who love music.

I understand his points and I'm glad for his hidden song. I don't see it as a BUY MY RECORD rather than please buy it to save the cd industry haha.

He didn't lie.

But I think he missed the main point that Albums are expensive as fuck, idk how much they cost in Korea but in my country for buying albums is expensive not only that but those albums don't come with photo-books or photo-cards like Kpop albums.. They are really plain and so when you can get music off the net for just a few bucks why bother going and getting a physical copy..

Even then, with all the fancy albums and merchs, I guess Kpop's suffering too, I mean they do have streaming at like what like 99 cents...

In Korea, albums (Physical) costs as little as $7 US Dollars to buy.

Oh so it's not that expensive either, I guess...

But tbh if you convert that into my country's currency it's still a little expensive especially if I count the shipping amount and everything too OTL T__T

I guess in the end all those easily available streaming facilities and internet literally everywhere is the major factor for Korea then...

Nuh... just that people in Korea has basically no time to run out to the stores and buy albums anymore...

Kids are either always stuck in school or doing extra curricular activities while adults work and work and work and work and work and work and work and work. So yeah, it's FAR MORE convenient to get digital albums rather than physical. It doesn't help that the market is oversaturated with idol groups now as well, where as back then, where were only a hand full so it was easy to keep up with your favorite groups and run to the store when they release their album. Nowadays, there's literally a group releasing an album everyday... so it just gets sorta...... boring? Useless? etc.

That's why airplay is one (if not the most) important form of promotion for groups now (and probably why digital sales are stressed). People are always out and never home, so whatever your exposed to depends on what you hear in the street or see in the TVs are restaurants, shopping centres, stations etc.

I'm guessing instead of not getting what he was trying to say, they just didn't bother reading it ._.

Because the first few commentors completely missed the point...

What he said is pretty true imo. I mean who buys cds these days other than die-hard-fans for collection purposes? No one buys them to actually listen to them. It's all about the digital market and the streaming sites now...

I've always preferred having albums physically over digitally, there's just something about being able to hold it plus you get the photobook and all that. I try to buy physical albums for my faves or albums I really like and I'll be sad if the music industry ever stops making physical cds for good.

I think he was talking more about the industry as a whole, since only a small minority (top idol groups) can sell well physically....Pretty much everyone else relies on digital sales and since he also directly worked with such acts, I don't see why it's outrageous for him to say that it's sad...

He's not lacking in that department so obviously it's not a financial issue to him lol

Also the comment about acting idols wrote to Jonghyun is a bit hilarious...

Korean albums are cheap as hell in my opinion lol.

A physical album in my country would be at least 20$ (nearly twice as much..)

The big physical sales of SM groups are achieved by international fandoms. It's all apart of SM's marketing rather than ppl liking their music. The reality is Koreans aren't contributing enough to their own kpop industry. You can only get so far with fanbase power and their bulk buying.

If you're buying single albums, then maybe. Otherwise it's about double that. Last summer I got 2 Davichi albums from êµë³´ë¬¸ê³  in Daegu. Mystic Ballad was 14,500 won, the other was a compilation for almost 20,000 won.

I agree with him. I don't see it as a "buy my album" thing, just that in general the market is dying and he's sad about it. It's the same thing as people buying old records because they think they sound better. You don't get that sound anymore and I personally can tell a difference between playing a CD in my car vs playing songs off of my phone. Plus there's an experience you get listening to a CD all the way through and just having it in your hands that you can't get with digital music.

Tbh.. this matter didn't cross my mind until Jonghyun brought it up. Without much thought I easily transitioned to digital music. This is one of those rare times I'm thankful that I have an old car which can only play CD. I still buy CDs for my car but other than that I pretty much rely on my phone and tablet for music and entertainment.

I wonder why CDs can't be like books? For me no matter how convenient e-books are, they can't compare to the experience of reading a book.

haha that's why I said ''as little as'', there's simply too many forms of albums (Mini Album, Deluxe, Collectors, Limited) to group them all in one price, hence why I said what I said :P
