Teresa&Clare 4,784
Girl group SeeYa made their debut in 2006 with the album 'Woman's Scent'. They didn't start off the bat with having a 'focal member', and the group was generally known for having the standard 'pretty member' and 'member who sings well'. But all of a sudden, members Lee Boram and Kim Yunji became second to new 'focal member' Nam Gyuri. As you can see, they're barely visible in their promo picture above. The bias doesn't end there, as Nam Gyuri would be dressed in differentiating outfits from the other members all the time, such as in skirts/dresses and darker make up. These outfits garnered their company a lot of hate, as it was in the winter and many wondered why only Nam Gyuri was dressed in a fur jacket and the other members were left to dry. The most controversial of all.. an event promo poster describing the group as "Nam Gyuri and SeeYa" Once again, she's the only one in the skirt. Accusations of bias deepened during their 'Shall We Get Married' promos when only Nam Gyuri, from start of the promos to the end, was dressed in a bridal headdress. Teresa&Clare 4,784
That's member Lee Boram in the back, not a back dancer^ Their controversial album cover with Nam Gyuri's picture as the largest frame 'Gani' promos where, once again, Nam Gyuri was the only one given a special focal point to her outfit with a butterfly hair pin. Lee Boram doesn't even have a bracelet^ The picture above was from a year-end ceremony stage that got CCM a lot of hate. The focus was entirely on Nam Gyuri the entire time and viewers basically had no idea that Supernova or the rest of SeeYa was even there performing with her because they looked like her back dancers. - Nam Gyuri eventually left the group, leaving a post on her mini-homepage and fancafe talking about discord. In a press conference, Lee Boram and Kim Yunji tried to retort her claims by dissing her back but to the public/media, all they saw was a female celebrity up against a large company and sympathy went to Nam Gyuri. Lee Boram and Kim Yunji stayed in CCM and went on to release two more albums as Women's Generation and Wonder Woman but only as collaboration projects with labelmates. The projects were basically to promote Jiyeon. They then had another album with Co-Ed's Soomi before her debut with Co-Ed for 'Rebloom', but that, too was just another promotional tactic for Soomi. SeeYa eventually decides to disband and decide to get together for one last album with Nam Gyuri. As always, she's back in the center. Still the center And their final broadcast together - What the three are up to now: Nam Gyuri: People expected her to be buried by Kwang Soo but she's been doing well. Released two singles, participated in a variety of drama and movie OSTs, acted in dramas and movies, judged on 'Superstar K', reunited with Kwang Soo. Has tons of pictorials since she's pretty, models for cosmetics brands, etc. Doing quite well for herself. Lee Boram: Renewed her contract with Mnet after SeeYa's disbandment. No singles, some participation in drama OSTs. Was in the musical 'Falling For Eve'. Released an album with Superstar K's Lee Boram called '2Boram' but it didn't do well. Was also embroiled in a scandal when her ex-boyfriend commit suicide (Chae Dong Ha) and people blamed her because it somehow got out to the media that she ignored a text he sent. Apparently, Chae Dong Ha was reminded of her and sent her a text before his death and Lee Boram, not wanting to rekindle a relationship with an ex again, ignored it (not fully knowing of his suicidal situation either). Kim Yunji: Did not renew her contract with Mnet. She was the best singer in the group but only released one single since the disbandment without any promotions. Has not participated in any drama OSTs. Lives life as a normal 'non-celebrity' now and attends school. She sang at her school festival but nobody knew her as a celebrity, just as a fellow classmate. In conclusion: This is what happens when you focus all your resources on one member of a group. - Source: Pann 1. [+85, -0] That crazy Kwang Soo bastard is always messing up the most talented people. Dramagoddess 2,013
Both CCM and Nam Gyuri herself were at fault with her leaving. CCM were being way too biased, but Nam Gyuri claims she wasn't treated fairly. Nam Gyuri had expressed in a recent interview that she had been treated unfairly, financial-wise as she had expected to earn far more than what she got in her 3 years as a singer. Lee Boram and Kim Yeon Ji held a press conference on the 26th. Lee Boram and Kim Yeon Ji have finally opened up and pointed fingers at Nam Gyuri, claiming that she was lying. Lee Boram said, "Many of her words were distorted. As for the claim that she was not paid fairly, that is not true. It's not possible if you just think about it. We are not sure why she is so upset and her sudden change. The company has always accomodated her and accorded her special privileges. During the production of the 3rd album, we changed our concept so many times because of her. To accomodate her filming schedule, we always fitted our schedule to hers." Yeon Ji said, "We could have left with Gyuri together and not sign the contract if the company had treated us badly. But that is not the case. Everyone in the company have been working their socks off for us." It had been agreed when they signed their Mnet contract in 2006 that SeeYa would transfer over to CCM from Mnet Media from February 2009. Lee Boram and Kim Yeon Ji did the required move and started preparation for their album. But Gyuri did not, citing the unfair terms listed out in the contract, and proceeded to go solo instead. CCM expressed, "This is not simply a case of pursuing legal action but a question pertaining to her trustworthiness. By not fulfiling her contract, she is not being responsible morally." They added, "Nam Gyuri was the one who always got special privileges. She always goes on programs and take part in movies by herself, creating a wedge between her and the other 2 SeeYa members. Take last year for example, we had over 30 invitations from schools to perform for them. But Gyuri's constant involvement in movies meant that it was impossible for us to accept the invitations. Although she is considered to be a newbie in acting, she does get 100% of the acting fee and a cut from the box-office profits. She got special treatment from us and yet she bites back and said we treated her poorly. It reflects badly on us and and is really inappropriate. Recent events have led to the public's distrust in management agencies. But we believe that Nam Gyuri might be manipulated by someone behind the scenes, judging from her actions." In response to Gyuri's claims that she was not paid fairly, CCM expressed that she had gotten 5 times the amount of what she had said. They are willing to publish all the figures that Gyuri has earned over the 3 years to expose her lies, should it be required. They concluded, "After working with Gyuri for the past 3 years, we are disappointed at this outcome. Time will unravel the lies that Gyuri has said." Right after that outburst, Nam Gyuri sprung into action again and wrote, "I am not trying to hide, or avoid [the situation]. I am at the end of my contract period. I did not continually absent myself or not show up for group events. My heart is torn into pieces at how much fighting is going on. I feel like I'm going to be sick...Who is on my side? Who is my company? When did I have a dual-contract? Who are these sponsors? Who the hell is my 'boyfriend' that is helping me? How much did I make and how many more 'secrets' must I reveal? What in the hell were the kind of 'special treatment' that I received? Why was I always saying yes to and doing everything asked that had been asked of me for the past three years? All I wanted to do was to sing and act. But with the facts becoming so twisted now, I become more and more weak and my heart hurts. I will never forget the look on their faces during the last conversation we had. When I told them that I would no longer continue in the agency, and if they had anything to say or ask me, I will never forget KKS's facial expression. All he did was just nod his head. We believed that we were one group...but why are we divided into two now? After the summer, when I came back, I was met with cold, dark eyes like ice. During the winter of 2008, people talked behind my back about how I have no loyalty. And now I have to hear words that are hard enough to say to someone." morningkiwi 1,050
NGL, when I think of Seeya, the first person that comes to mind is Nam Gyuri. I enjoy her as a actress but I didn't realize that all this was happening when she was in the group. I don't see how this could be Miss A? Yeah Suzy does way more than the other 3 members with drama roles and CFs and much more but when it comes to Miss A promotions it's usually/mostly equal in-between them. Lines, solo shots in MVs, etc... The problem with Seeya was that Nam Gyuri was always in the middle of the group. That's not the case with Miss A. Unfortunately there's always this one member who gets pushed on the media more than the others and it seems like it's a pattern that happens with pretty much all boy and girl groups. It's funny because this usually makes me pay more attention to the members who aren't the focus and it was one of the biggest reasons why I liked Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls more back then.
