So Everyone's Going to China

Either for concerts or legit activities (lol funny considering how racist Korea is towards China and Japan but are always desperate to 'make it' there).

A Cube
- A Pink (concerts)

Cube
- maybe 4minute?

DSP
- KARA

JellyFish
- VIXX

JYP
- miss A? Haven't they been trying in China?

MBK
- T_ara

Pledis
- Nana, probably After School and Orange Caramel

SM
- same as always

Starship
- bizarrely SISTAR and Boyfriend but I don't believe they're that popular in China tbh

TOP Media
- Teen Top probably (hence 'international promotions)

TS
- SONAMOO

YG
- iKON

I wouldn't be surprised if Girl's Day were to try in China too.

SO

Who do you think actually has a chance in China? Who is actually popular in China (I mean being popular in Korea =/= popular in China)? How does China currently feel about Kpop and once that market dries up, where will they go?

Do you mean "How does China currently feel about *kpop" ?

I'd like to know more about this as well, preferably from Chinese speaking users who frequent weibo or anyone who keeps up with the Chinese entertainment scene.

The Chinese market has potential, though it's not as if an overly large amount genuinely care for kpop. Though Chinese fan's are known for remaining incredibly loyal and dedicated. The majority attempting to expand to China, to leech money, will doubtless not achieve any commendable success. If the market dries up, then kpop is pretty much done.

f(x) has the most chance to gain decent amount of success if SM actually debut them there.

They have the fanbase that going to spread awareness to the group and as result, give them alot of offers in the industry.

They may not benefit through music but music not where artists make real money anyway (even in Korea), but through cfs, events, TV appearances, concerts performances (China has tons of concerts going on there), acting etc, they can make tons. I feel f(x) has potential for this market, and Victoria will be a great asset for the group to attract demand to the group. SM, f(x) for China in 2015 please :rlytearpls:

I don't get why a lot of them try tbh, at least with the way they try.

I think the best/"easiest" way to win the heart of the public is to...actually sing/speak the language fairly well? idk why everyone thinks popping in randomly with the same Korean songs (+ then doing a cover of a well-known cpop song or smth at the concert) is going to work? Even Miss A gave a bit of an effort with actually releasing Chinese versions of their songs but still mostly nobody really gives a fuck.

ot but I remember Boyfriend being at a new year concert with a lot of other big shots (Jay Chou, Wang Lee Hom, JJ Lin, etc) and trending artists (EXO M at their debut yr), and while they had a few hardcore stans to support them, it was awkward af.

snsd have biggest fanbase/ followed by fx , yoona/jessica/victoria/ ... individually are more bigger and have more following than any other girl groups .some of of fx snsd members individual c-fandom place bigger album orders  than  other girl group's total album sales ,so it says a lot how much difference is there between them and the rest.

And since china have a  individual fandom culture the influence of a group also depends on individual idol popularity.

Tier1.yoona/vic/......... jess

Tier2.kry/tae/

Tier3.tiff/seohyun/jiyeon/sulli

Tier4.suzy//yuri/eunji

Tier6.Hyomin/bom/hara/nana/

Tier7:hyoyeon/sunny/eunjung/boram/dara/sooyoung/cl/naeun/chorong etc.

"YEAH GUYS SM MADE A PATH LEGGO!"

Good luck to them and to be quite frank if we're judging how the entirety of china feels about kpop then kpop is still on that

"we don't give a shit" level

China is the new frontier for Kpop.  Boyfriend has a good fan base there. It was the help of their Chinese fans with why they won their award they did not long ago.... (C, J, K and I fans all worked together) Now is a good time to go though before the Hallyu wave gets there. Early bird gets the worm...

I'm thinking so too... All the companies are going to use up their money in not only debuting new acts but also these over seas activities. I'm sure it isn't cheap. You gotta have the plane tickets to and from, hotel stay, food.... Plus, they have to still think of their Korean fans and if you're a group like Boyfriend and spend a lot of time in Japan you have to think of them as well.

I think with their style and with Victoria and her activities in China they could do so well. Maybe they could finally get a fan club name and all...poor dears.

I definitely think it's all going to be awkward unless you're a group like EXO, T-ara, maybe Ikon/Winner... I don't know about Boyfriend and them being in China compared to Korea and Japan.... They're doing pretty well in Korea as of late since "Hello Baby" and they have such potential in their home country I worry about them possibly losing that chance by focusing so much on China and being like the WG but worse.

China's been having a mini hallyu wave the past 2 years as more and more ppl are getting wealthy, getting internet, and moving to the big cities. Exo helped promote kpop a good amount too with the pretty boy image and 4 Chinese members, though the vast majority of pop listeners still listen to mainly Chinese artists. Kind of like the hallyu wave in other countries 5+ years ago where maybe 2-5% of ppl in the US/France ect found out and listen to kpop.

It's kinda surprising that TS already starts considering Sonamoo to expand to Chinese market...

Also, what's with all the negs for comments about T-Ara and China?

Regarding T-ara, SN8D fans. LOL.

I feel like Kpop isn't even that popular in China... except for maybe preteen girls? Because every Chinese person I knows really doesn't give a crap about Kpop. But that's the same with the Korean people I know around my age too so idk

This is true. There are lots KPOP fans in China of course, but that's a very small percentage in the population; general public does not care or know about KPOP. Most people still listens to cpop, and if they do buy foreign music it's usually western (US and European artists) or Jpop.

I think most of the groups will make some money in China because the country has spending power, but none of them will have long term success.
