I'm using Red Velvet, Lovelyz and Mamamoo as an example, because they seem to be the most influential rookies from 2014.

All their MR Removed videos are consistently good, Mamamoo's being exceptional. Every member in all of these groups have, at least, decent vocal ability, only improving from there. Red Velvet and Lovelyz especially have high intensity, complicated dances, and they still manage to maintain vocal and performance quality. Their visuals (namely Solar, Irene, and Jiae) are charismatic and already gaining popularity. It's amazing.

Great dancing, good singing, nice stage presence, Red Velvet seems to have it all in this performance of "Happiness". Their energy on stage is really enviable, they seem both cute and friendly.

Mamamoo's vocals are to die for! The members are cute, their rapper is high quality, and their dance, while not high intensity, is cute and charismatic.

To have consistently good vocals from every member in a 7 member group can be difficult, but Lovelyz manages, while also maintaining woolim's legacy of having "knife-point" choreography.

It's like these girls took a super serum or something. What do you think, did the female rookies of 2014 step up girl group game for future releases?

The 2014 girl groups might be the closest we'll ever get to the 2009 girl groups.

In 2009, it wasn't just one group that managed to find success early. And we are sort of seeing something similar to that now. We didn't really see that with the groups that debuted in between.

I voted Maybe because I feel like it's still too early. Mamamoo are great, and Lovelyz and Red Velvet are talented, but talent isn't enough. They need to have songs that really stand out and the members need to be able to make the best of them.

Mamamoo have built a consistent sound but their songs have yet to really impress.

And as for RV and Lovelyz I feel like their few songs have been very limiting and haven't shown off their full potential.

Lovelyz has 4 Main/Lead vocals who can pull off really strong and unique ballads, but the group's songs didn't show that off at all. Not to mention the member's interest in performing different musical genres as well as their desire to produce their own songs.

The same goes for Red Velvet, and I still feel like Joy especially hasn't been utilized properly.

There's still much more in store to look forward to from these groups.

I hope 2015 will be a good year for rookie girl groups.

Lovelyz and Red Velvet though?  :imstupid:

What do they bring that hasn't already been done?

Same could be said about every other group, kpop isn't original  :imstupid:

I don't know why Mamamoo don't appeal to me they are talented and all but forgettable imo

I can relate  :rlytearpls: they're so talented and I freaking love their personalities, but their music just not my cup of tea  :._.:

Hopefully, these three groups are amazing, i'm biased but yeah Mamamoo is the most talented, Red Velvet will prob have the biggest fanbase and album sales and Lovelyz also has good singers and if they start doing flawless stuff like their oppas from Infinite they can definitely become huge

If they become the next WonSoKa i wont be mad tbh

As long as they release good stuff and not some basic shit we've been getting from the "top" girlgroups lately

I would add Laboum too, if Nega and NH continue to manage them well they might get some of the spotlight as well

oh, should I put up radio performances then? Or are they still not reliable?

I think you thought too fast when you made that comment haha.  Most groups do well just singing their songs in studio, you know? The challenge, skill and what sets them apart from other groups is being able to sing steady, loud and clear while performing, not when you're standing still in a quiet enclosed studio with a full headset and a contained sound system.. 0.0

To early to tell.

Take Lovelyz for example. They have been promoting candy jelly love:

It do not show much vocal power but, They have shown those vocal too.

(group)

My point is it's hard to tell only with a few month and songs.

when it comes to singing talent, hype, and standout members i agree.  if there was one thing that bugged me about popular girl groups was the lack of strong mr removed performers, and there would only be one strong singer per group.

as for songs, the 2009 groups has these new groups way beat.  but then again, we have yet to see what's coming, so i guess all we can do is anticipate

the talent has never been higher i'd say
