Rumors surfaced today regarding a possible cancellation of 'Roommate', citing a final filming date of February 25. However, the PD of the show spoke up to assure viewers that these rumors are false.

Xports News reported in its exclusive earlier today that 'Roommate' is scheduled to end its filming for season 2 on February 25. The media outlet revealed that multiple broadcast insiders also stated that a season 3 doesn't seem likely with talks about its staff being replaced.

However, 'Roommate' PD Park Sang Hyuk denied the report and rumors to OSEN later on, stating, "The report that ['Roommate'] will end filming on February 25 is false... A filming for February 25 has not even been set. I am just flabbergasted at how these rumors came about" - assuring viewers that 'Roommate' doesn't plan on ending anytime soon.

Another SBS rep explained a possible reason for the rumors; "Another PD, who directed 'Roommate' with PD Park, is preparing for a pilot variety show so maybe that's why these rumors came about."

As background, Roommate 2 replaced Magic Eye which was cancelled and had a final rating of 3.3%

Roommate 2's ratings since replacing Magic Eye have been

Nov 25  3.3%
Dec 02  3.0%
Dec 09  3.1%
Dec 16  4.7% with guest star JYP
Dec 23  5.1% with guest star JYP with "JYP" mini concert

It seems to get higher ratings than Magic Eye, it needs guests like JYP, GOT7 and Jang Ye Won.

So will it get replaced by a spinoff show with new cast?

The show is more popular internationally

Does the network get paid for this popularity? With Running Man, the ratings have been up and down in South Korea, but there was an article a couple of days ago that they make around $30 million USD from China each year.

I will fucking cry if this gets cancelled, I need my daily fix of Jackson.

But it looks like it will if rumors are already surfacing, especially with ratings being worst than season 1 in the long run. :/ I'm not sure how much its international popularity will matter to the producers, but online it gets as much views as Running Man on certain sites.

ETA: Looking at it's rating chart SBS has itself to blame for the poor ratings after moving it from it's timeslot it did poorly right after that and has just been increasing in ratings these past two weeks.

I'm actually not sure, but I think they should figure out a way to profit off of the overseas fans.

people who moan or are too eager to point out that season 2 has lower ratings than season 1 are truly misinformed cause they fail to take into account the timeslot.

11.15pm on a tuesday night when people have to work and go to school the next day?

4.7% is good, especially since the previous show 'Magic Eye' ended with a 3.3%.

PLUS, the highest rating for that timeslot was 'Cool Kidz on the Block' that has Kang Hodong, etc which scored 5%.

sigh, people who complain about ratings have no idea of its context.

(especially those season 1 diehards who insist that season 2 is worse than season1)
