--The lead for screenwriter Kudo Kankuro's family drama "11 nin mo iru!", Kamiki Ryunosuke
--It's a great honour to be able to act in a drama by Kudo Kankuro whom I like very much. My role is as Sanada Kazuo, the eldest son of 8 siblings. Till now most of my roles are as a younger brother, so it felt very fresh to have children younger than me at the recording scene. When the younger brothers and sisters call out "Onii-chan", I need to be serious about it.

--What kind of existence is "family" to you?
--To me, family members are people whom I can open my heart to, their existence alone can make one feel more courageous. In my family, everyone has their own room, but for some reason we have a habit of spending time in the living room. Being in the same space for a long time, it's natural have arguments, but at the same I feel that I can talk to my family truthfully. Recently I've heard that for some people, even though their family are home, family members use mail/messages to ask the others to watch this drama together. If this drama can be the turning point of the families' contact and relations, I will be very happy.

--We've heard that Kamiki-kun takes time out to enjoy his photography hobby despite being busy with the drama shoots.
--In order to take photos of sunsets, I went to Odawara by myself (laughs) Because I really like trains too,　I would go on Enoden* which has views of the sea. Recently I've been taking pictures of the skies and stars as well. Photos of beautiful scenery, photos with friends or family as mementos...photographs can show the path I've walked on and my feelings at that time, so I really like taking photos.

--Lastly, what is the type of girl you like.
--I like the type of girl who can protect me at times, and depend on me other times. I wish that she would act spoiled towards me from time to time, and I want to be spoiled by her too. A girl who can accept these two aspects is my ideal type.

—Does Kamiki-san like the Fana's type of girl?
"I... well, I'm not sure if I'm suitable for those type of rich girls (laughs) I like energetic girls, and people with resolute will are good too."

Wishing to mature through acting

—Charles' age is set at 21, this is your first time having a grown-up role right?
"Yes. This is my first time acting as a character who drinks."

—From now on your acting path will become broader, what roles do you want to act?
"For roles, I want to act in a love drama. So far there were a few roles there were somewhat like that, but all of it only had faint feelings of love."

—This time it is also a platonic type of relation.
"Yes. Thus I wish I will have a chance to act it out once."

—The kind of earth-shattering love story?
"No, not the earth-shattering kind, but the type of love story in high school. Elementary school and middle school love are restricted to the pure feeling of liking someone even though that will mature.　High school students' feelings are probably more abundant. Dejection, pain, the different feelings are more complicated. I would like to act in a love story that can express these kind of feelings."

—If that's the case we will be able to see a new side of Kamiki-san.
"Yes. I would like to challenge various roles."

—Previously you brought up Chousuke-san* when asked about your favourite actor, are there other actors who you aim to be like?
"Let's see......Nakai Kiichi-san. In 'Kaze no Garden' we acted as father and child. Even when he's just standing there, he seems like father. The aura of a father clearly exudes out, he looks just like father. I could really feel him bringing out the feel of the character to me, which made a great impact on me. I truly respect him."

—Nakai-san is a lot older than Kamiki-san, so does that mean you want to be an actor for a long time?
"I will want to continue for a long time."

—To Kamiki-san, what is the draw of a drama with a strong appeal?
"There's a lot, I think the most interesting is when you can become different people, and be able to understand people's various feelings. Before acting, you have to observe many people, ponder over the character; while acting there is a need to understand even more things. This way, through acting you can understand things that you would not have understood, that is the biggest draw. Everytime I act I feel like I had learned a lot of things, gained a lot of knowledge. This has helped in my maturity."

—Your maturity? When would you have these sort of feelings?
"In order to express different stories I would study feelings like sadness and pain and so I will think about the other party's emotions. For example, if a friend is feeling troubled, I would be able to understand the person's feelings better. I want to become someone with depth, so in this sense, I am very thankful for this occupation."

Actor's Interview

To me Charles is the ideal type of man

Inumura Koroku's light novel is turned into anime film, with Kamiki Ryunosuke voice acting as the protoganist pilot Charles Karino
"When I was reading the script, I was wondering how could there be such beautiful lines. Also, I yearn to be Charles. He is an honest and responsible person, and has a strong awareness of protecting others. He is really a man amongst men. To me Charles is the ideal type of man."

Charles is born in the lowest social class. But he still yearned for the skies since young, and thus became the most skilled pilot in the army. He is in charge of bringing the next princess, the Duke's daughter Fana, to her fiance. While the nation is at war with the enemy country, and without any guards, he has to rely on himself to shoulder the duty of protecting Fana.
"The director had roughly explained the character. In the anime, since there are images first, the characteristics are easier to understand. This time Charles is the important central figure, a youth with an upright personality. He is 21 years old, older than me by a few years, so I subconciously lowered my voice."

Charles have air battles too, but most of the time he has dialogues with Fana.
"There is only 1 time Fana's voice actor Taketomi Seika-san and I were at the set together. After that I recorded the lines alone, taking note of the tempo of the conversations with Fana, carefully handling the nuances of the lines, and giving quite a bit of effort to the way of speaking."

The love between Charles and Fana is faintly starting to grow, but their social classes are drastically different, and because of this the story becomes even more interesting.
"It is really a very beautiful love story. In this work, be it sunset, sky, sea etc, the images are too beautiful. I hope that everyone will not only feel the story, but also the pull of the images."

Kamiki the child actor who debuted at 2 years old is 18 this year. What roles does he want to challenge next?
"I would like do roles revolving around love. In any case, all my roles till now have stopped at the type of pure love of elementary students (laughs) Hope that I can try expressing the complicated feelings of an unusual love story."
