2010 February JUNON Interview

Kamiki Ryunosuke, awakened year

"Even if it's 1mm, I want to steadfastly improve!"

After becoming a high school student, life is not the same as before.

Starting to consider his future as an actor seriously

The feeling of wanting to be popular has also changed!

Being an actor, being a high school student, 2009 was spent fruitfully and happily. To Ryuu-kun who is gradually growing up from a young boy to an adult actor, this year signifies a huge turning point. "Because I look like a child, I want to become a little more like an adult", this kind of Ryuu-kun makes people can't help but pay close attention to him from now on.

Participating in event is the happiest moment of the year

I felt that this is a year where I grew very quickly. From my little habits like speaking, doing things, I am steadier compared to middle school.

During the middle school graduation ceremony, I didn't think of crying but ended up crying. Field trips, cultural festivals, sports festivals, there are a lot of precious memories. Singing with my classmates SMAP's "Orange" and GReeeeN's "Kiseki" that we chose ourselves, the previous joyous moments will appear before the eyes.

When I first became a high school student, I frequently felt nervous. Everyday I thought of getting along with everyone, playing to my heart's content, but I didn't know what to do. The school had strict rules (laughs) and thinking that it is no longer compulsory education, breaking school rules would be bad (laughs) But two months later, we became a lot more familiar with each other, I looked forward to going to school. At the Gakushuu Happyoukai* (Learning presentation? A show time thingy) not too long ago, everyone in class practised EXILE's "Choo Choo train", and performed in front of the entire school, that was very fun!

In terms of work, I was busy during summer. I filmed the serial drama "Akahana no Sensei". To me it was the first time acting as a cool character like Yaegashi, contemplating hard on "What is 'cool'?" I put in quite a lot of effort into the actions, standing posture and way of delivering dialogue; this process is also a kind of enjoyment. After that I saw people leaving messages on the drama's BBS, I felt that there are people watching it and was very happy.

At the same time, I also shot the short film "The Game", with my good friends with the same agency the feeling of "everyone filming together" is very strong. Especially in "Othello", there is a sense of competing to see who is the most interesting and eye-catching, furthermore there are only guys so everything can be real, so I gave it my all and received happiness in return. There are screening events in August, going up the stage on the first day I heard the cheers, that made me surprised and excited (laughs). Usually when I film movies or dramas, I have very few chances of seeing the viewers. Through this format I can directly feel the audience's voice. In all, it was very fun and I hoped the "Everyone having fun and being joyful" thoughts will become even stronger. In the event I tried a lot of things, people around me also said "Ryuu is shining" (laughs). In this year, for both work and private life, this event is the most enjoyable.

And so I became confident, in the meet and greet session to commemorate "Summer Wars" breaking the 1 million viewers mark, I could stand confidently and naturally on the stage. Before that, in order "not to say the wrong things", I would always do a summary type of speech. Now I feel that it's not right, even if it's clumsy, I should convey my own thoughts out. I myself feel that my growth is also reflected here.

Want to become a person who is unconditionally gentle to others

'Kenji' in "Summer Wars" is similar to me, and we are the same age, I will very easily forget myself and immerse into the character, this part is especially memorable. During the recording, because there are 20~30 voice actors recording together, it's like Kenji directly talking to the person, it has a very realistic feel.

I do not hate my own voice, but recently it has suddenly become deeper. I wish that my voice will make people feel even calmer. My face should also become more like an adult (laughs). Comparing my face to my classmates in the school mirror, I feel that my face is like a child's.

Another movie that started showing in summer is "20th Century Boys -Last Chapter-". When I first received the invitation to act in it, I was truly happy. When the first part came out, I went to the theater and watched it as an audience, and became a fan of this work.

Therefore, when the last part was screened, I woke up on the first day at 5am in the morning to go the theater in Shibuya, and waited till 8.40am when the tickets started selling, becoming the first batch of audience. I've never seen the preview before, and in the preview my scenes are not shown. So when I first watched the movie in the theater, I was unexpectedly surprised when I realised that I had quite a lot of close-ups (laughs). Thinking that "if people discovered that I'm the one who just appeared in the film that would be shameful", once the movie ended I immediately escaped from the movie theater (laughs).

This film was also seen by the production staff of "Akahana no Sensei" and my classmates, when they told me "You're amazing", I was overjoyed.

Such enriching summer holidays, even though I did not get much rest, I still went to my grandma's house, and also watched fireworks display. I am the type who must watch fireworks in summer. Winter, during the Christmas period when it starts snowing in Tokyo, listening to Kuwata Keisuke's "Shiroi Koibito Tachi" while strolling by myself on the streets lited by Christmas trees and neon lights is also something I do every year (laughs). In 2009 I wanted to buy the Seishun 18 Kippu to go on a trip, but in the end it did not materialize, in 2010 I must definitely go somewhere for a trip.

I want to "confront myself" in 2010. So far, acting is just an enjoyable thing to me, I want to find my future goal as an actor, even if it's 1mm, I want to steadfastly improve!

As a person, I want to become a gentle and honest person. For example even if I'm betrayed, or encounter extremely unfair situations, I will not seek revenge. Be magnanimous and generous, unconditionally gentle to others. I feel that my mother is very honest and gentle, this type of mother is my goal as a person.

But the girls in class told me "Being too gentle is boring" (laughs). Recently, I've understood that those who want to become popular are conversely not popular (laughs), so I will tone it down, and quietly put the thought of "wanting to be popular" somewhere in the corner of my heart (laughs).

"Behind the scenes" type of corner

When Ryuu-kun who said "I love Koshian (type of red bean paste)!" was given the dessert, he is always munching while revealing an irresistible smile, saying that "it's delicious" several times. This innocent frankness is his biggest charm. What kind of wonderful adult will Ryuu-kun who yearns to be like "Fukuyama Masaharu" turn out to be, we will look forward to it!

2009 November JUNON Interview

000301hw00033tdg

Kamiki Ryunosuke's photography life

"Someday I would like to photograph the face of the girl I like"

Liking photography since young, the photos that Ryuu-kun, who has a performer's blood running through him, had taken in the "most hardworking summer of his life".

A promise to go to London with Fukuyama-san

The first time I took a photograph by myself was probably around 6 years old, I was still in kindergarten at that time. Till now, I have been accompanied by the camera by 10 years...I have another new identity (laughs). In the beginning I used the slightly faulty camera that my mother had used before. When taking photos, the light will leak in for no reason, so the slot for film roll was taped (laughs). But it can still be used. The first thing that I shot with that camera is probably my grandfather's potted plant. After seeing the developed picture, I thought "The things that I take can be preserved this way!", so I started liking photography.

After that I used the camera for a period of time, until the second year of elementary school when a new digital camera was bought, and in the first year of middle school I bought a SLR camera, half of it using my otoshidama money and my parents giving money for the other half. When I was young, my photography subject seemed to be just trains (laughs). I would frequently let my father bring me to Tokyo Station to take photos. The camera I use now was a gift from my uncle when the third year of middle school was about to end.

Now the photos I take are mainly of scenery, because when I go to other locations for shoot, I will definitely bring my camera. The photographs are all in the computer's USB memory, the earliest photos are from the time I went to Venice Film Festival at age 12 for "The Great Yokai War". Recently I went to Hokkaido to shoot "Kaze no Garden", not only is the scenery there beautiful, there are 350 or more types of flowers, I like flowers a lot too, so I was photographing to my heart's content. The best photo that I've taken so far is perhaps the one that I took when I went to Okinawa for "Ruri no Shima" in the second year of middle school. The light, termed as "God's Light" (Kami no Hikari), spreads out gently from a break in the clouds, leaving a beautiful impression.

When the work is within Tokyo city limits, I do not bring the camera along since it is too heavy, yet it is always in these kinds of situations that I encounter beautiful images. For example, a rainbow appearing when it becomes sunny after the rain, the buildings reflecting light. Therefore I want to save money to buy a slightly smaller camera.

I really like the skies too; I usually take photos of it. Not too long ago, I woke up at 4 in the morning and looked at the sky; the feeling was pretty good so I decided to take photos of it. Just wearing a tank top, listening to music on my headphones while taking pictures of the morning glow. When taking photographs, there must be music, and it cannot be of the up tempo type, melodious and soothing piano song or ballads are the best, for example Fukuyama Masaharu's "Dear" etc. Recently I was looking at the sunset outside the window of the dressing room while listening to Fukuyama-san's "Tokyo ni Mo Attanda", the feeling is very good.

To me, the most important part of taking photos are the feelings, Feeling touched, wanting to take a photo and thus taking the photo. Mentioning my agency senpai Fukuyama-san again, I had chatted with him about photography before; he taught me a lot of useful things. "Photography is not only about composition, you need to photograph what you had felt truthfully." Actually, Fukuyama-san and I had agreed that when I turn 19, we will "go to photograph London Olympics together" (laughs)

Looking at beautiful things can cleanse people's hearts

I'm not good at shooting people. The reason is because people always seem to be a little deliberate in front of a camera. I want to shoot a smile under natural circumstances, or the natural expression while doing something. But it is always difficult, so I gave up. However, I would like to photograph the face of the girl I like someday. For example, thinking "what a beautiful sight" in the heart while gazing at the scenery with an enthralled expression, or seeming to have a little feeling of happiness, both are good. Smiles or something similar are not bad, but I hope it's not too deliberate. I want to photograph the natural expression when she is smiling at me while we're talking normally. If I could play a song I like, it will probably still be Fukuyama Masaharu's "milk tea" (laughs).

The reason why I like photography so much is probably I have the feeling of "wanting to keep beautiful things". Previously my mother had already told me, "You must look at beautiful things" "When looking at beautiful things, people's hearts are naturally cleansed too." and brought me to see night scenery and such. This has kind of become a habit in my heart. In elementary school, I would take a stroll when it's raining, taking pictures of the instant where the rain drop drops from the leaf. This way, when I'm looking at the pictures I had taken before, I will think of the feelings at that moment, perhaps my mood becomes better too.

I don't have any expectations of having my own photography exhibition, I've only thought of showing my photos to my family or friends, I am already satisfied with the current situation.

Going see fireworks at Sumida River by myself

This summer I went to Sumida River to see fireworks. That day I had wanted to do my summer holidays homework, there were no plans at all. In the evening, I saw on TV that a special programme on Sumida River Fireworks Festival was going to be aired soon, and suddenly had this thought: "If I don't go, I will definitely regret it!" "But, the homework has not been done yet", the mental tug-of-war lasted about 1 minute (laughs), 30 minutes before it started I finally ran from my house to the station decisively, and arrived at the location 30 minutes before it ended. At that time the first thing that popped into my mind was the proverb "The day of resolved decision is a lucky day" (æ€ã„ç«‹ã£ãŸãŒå‰æ—¥, loosely translated) (laughs). Intuition is really important. It was really good. It was the first seeing fireworks from such a close distance, becoming an unforgettable experience in my life so far, even though I went by myself (laughs) Since it was at night, I felt that the photos will turn out blurry so I didn't take any, but I used my phone to take a video.

Another time was when I went to Tamagawa Fireworks Festival at my friend's invitation, this summer I had gone to fireworks festivals twice.

This summer I was filming "Akahana no Sensei", so I didn't have a complete holiday, I was thinking in my heart that it would be good if I had at most 3 more days of holiday before school starts on 1st September. And my wish was granted since I can rest for 3 days after today (the day of interview). Today I went to school to join in the supplementary lessons. Actually I do not need to go for the lessons since I did not fail any subjects, I just wanted to try attending a summer supplementary lesson (laughs). In the end the teacher was not around, and it became self-revision time.

I want to spend these 3 days meaningfully, going to my grandmother's house, in addition I have to wake up at 5am to go to Shibuya to buy movie tickets. The first day of showing will have lots of people, but waiting in the queue is ok. I belong to the type who can kill time listening to music and reading books.

This summer holidays, I had very big changes. I had a lot of encouragement from my peers in the same agency, felt that "that's bad, I can't keep up to other's standards at all" and became anxious. I strongly wish that I can be someone who let others feel "this person is different from others", a person who have his own unique charm. Because of that I am working hard everyday practising guitar, practising singing, giving my all in studies too. This summer is my most hardworking summer. The summer that was abnormally fulfilling in all senses is about to end soon, now I am looking forward to the starting of school!

2010.08.20 Movie Pia Bessatsu

0001gyqq

We like this part about Ghibli movies!

Kamiki Ryunosuke (actor)
"Right now I still have the feeling of wanting to fly up to the skies on a broom"

With Studio Ghibli's works accompanying him during his life as an actor

"My head is in anime world, right now I still wish that wings can grow out from my back, and I can fly in the skies."

With a carefree smile, Kamiki Ryunosuke who is describing his longing for the fantasy world, is 17 years old. The first Ghibli film he encountered is Kurenai no Buta/Porco Rosso.

"I've liked Kurenai no Buta from kindergarten, I watched it a lot of times. When I was young, rather than understanding the theme of the film, it more like purely thinking that airplanes and gunfights are cool. The use of adrenline pumping BGM that boys like is also one of the reasons. With this film as the trigger, I also watched "My neighbor Totoro", "Kiki's Delivery Service", "Princess Mononoke", and after that in terms of work I had the opportunity to voice "Bou" in "Spirited Away", other than that I've also watched "The Cat Returns", "Ghiblies Episode 2", "Ponyo" etc. I really like Ghibli's works. About their charm? First is of course the dreams they give to people, even though it seems like it is separated from reality, but you can immerse into the world naturally, and there are themes that tie in with the time period. Therefore, whenever I receive an invitation to voice act in Ghibli's movie I feel very fortunate."

In 9 years he has dubbed for 5 Ghibli works, the most amongst actors. To people who like Ghibli, this is supreme happiness. And he has worked with Director Miyazaki Hayao in "Spirited Away" and "Howl's Moving Castle", with Director Takahata Isao in the Studio Ghibli-produced Japanese dialogue for "Kirikou and the Sorceress", with Director Yonebayashi Hiromasa in the new movie "Karigurashi no Arrietty", the only actor who has ever worked with these 3 directors. Furthermore in making of Sho's design in "Karigurashi no Arrietty", there is a surprise that makes Kamiki's eyes sparkle.

"I heard that Sho's character is referenced from my posters and the roles I had so far, that made me really happy, really happy! To exaggerate a bit, it feels like I've appeared in a Ghibli film myself, something I'll never forget. Ah, but the personality is completely different (laughs). But while I'm voice acting I can feel that, resting in the bed reading books or looking outside the window, suddenly aimlessly walking out, listening to music while thinking, these parts are very similar."

Having the lead role for the first time in "The Great Yokai War" at 12 years old, and being the lead for the television drama "Tantei Gakuen Q", movie "Little DJ", participating in many television and film works. This year he has become aware of carefully creating his characters. Since he has this maturity and growth as an actor, Sho's character "Arrietty" made him crack his head in a positive way.

"When I was voice acting for "Spirited Away" and "Howl", I acted out based on my understanding of the feelings at that time. But this time I want to understand more about this boy Sho. Because this is what I feel from my heart so it should be like this. How do I act out the tone of hopefulness? In voice acting I've never acted such a calm character, this is a challenge too. I can double or triple my tension, but to lower my mood and only using voice to express is a lot harder than imagined. Because I acted it out, I felt that I've grown again (laughs)."

Actors immersing themselves in the role allows the viewers to ponder about it, be deeply touched by it. The sincere feelings in a fantasy world, this is the essence of a Ghibli work.

Which world in Ghibli does he want to experience? The answer is "Kiki's Delivery Service". The reason is "because I wish to be able to fly freely in the skies". "I think people who watched this film when they are young would have tried before. Riding on a broom wanting to fly up to the sky like Kiki (laughs). My memory of those times are still fresh now. Even if I forgot, I would return back to the younger days once I watch it. I feel that no mayyer how old you grow, it can always arouse people's memories, make people feel touched, this is the charm of Ghibli's work."

2010.05.13 Hanako Interview

0001cezc

Dubbing again after 3 years, the big adventure film is now showing.

Kamiki Ryunosuke is voice acting in the Luc Besson-directed big adventure film "Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazar". 3 years have gone by, in what ways does he think he has grown?

Wanting to become an ideal adult quickly.

"In Japan, there is no person for Arthur other than Ryunosuke!" Supported by Director Luc Besson's enthusiastic love call, Kamiki Ryunosuke is once again voice acting as the protagonist Arthur. "Voice acting for foreign films and anime have different difficulties. Dubbing from French to Japanese is really not easy, a lot of effort is needed."

This is the second part of a trilogy. It has already been 3 years since the screening of the previous film. "At that time I was a first year middle school student. There were a lot of changes in 3 years. Right now I'm a high school student, in this period of time I've experienced middle school exams and school excursions (laughs)."

With regards to changes to his body, the one that is most obvious is voice.

"Growing little by little, my voice has become deeper and deeper. I was even worried about not being able to reach the high pitch parts in the first film."

Indeed "I'm already 17 this year", his smiling side profile has a heroic feel, it seems like it's no longer suitable to call him a young boy. Kamiki-kun himself wishes to become an ideal adult quickly, this wish seems to be quite strong.

"That's because I'm no longer a child. So I want to hurry up and become my ideal type of adult. Thus, I am now accumulating all sorts of experience, continously working hard. In work, hope that there will be change in every production, let the viewers go "Ah? Kamiki is already an adult? He has grown up" And adults also have a lot of freedom. I want to live by myself, go on a trip by myself."

Does that mean his views on love are clearer than normal people between 10-19?!

"Right now playing and chatting with boys seem more interesting. I am always joking and pranking in class. Throwing beans in class during Setsubun, breathing in helium gas and walking into class saying "Good morning--" (laughs) I like events, and want to make everyone happy. Even though these are very popular with the guys, the girls will probably find it annoying soon (laughs)."

2011.10.01 cinema★cinama Interview ((To aru Hikuushi e no Tsuioku))

0001aa4h

The intense and gripping air battles and the faint love nurtured under the free skies exceeding their social classes----.
The popular novel turned into animation, lead actor Kamiki will talk about the charm of the work!

When I read the script, I felt that it is a rather beautiful work. Even though the story revolves around love, the sense of distance between those two also makes people feel comfortable. The final parts are not simply a happy ending, but it is also not a regretful ending. After reading it gives people a comfortable relieved feeling. When reciting my lines, I've thought that the feeling is good quite a few times (laughs).

Other than that, I think that "equality" is a keyword in this, Charles whom I'm voice acting as is a young man who suffered from discrimination since young, living a life with little freedom. Because of that, he likes the skies which is the only place where he feels free. On the other hand, Fana, the girl he has to escort, is born in a royal family living a puppet-like life. Through the air journey with Charles, she finds a little bit of her real self back in this new world where there is nothing, not even her identity. Considering that their feelings are hidden behind the dialogue makes it seem even more exciting.

Only a short period of time was spent recording with Taketomi Seika-san, the voice for Fana. Her voice that encompasses many emotions had grasped the image of the character better than mine. The scene that we recorded together was the part where Charles tell Fana that they had met once before when they were young. Since it is a scene that pulled them closer together, I thought that the timing of the collaboration is good.

It was only after the recording was finished that I knew Prince Carlo is voiced by Ono Daisuke-san and Chijiwa by Tomizawa Takeshi-san (laughs) I've liked them since before, so when I heard this I was very excited (laughs). Also the characters they voiced for are rather outstanding too. Prince Carlo has a pure heart, Chijiwa is a warrior type of man, and there's Charles with a strong sense of responsibility and justice. It feels like the men who appear in this work are ideal men gathered together. In addition, from a girl's point of view, people can identify with Fana's growth. So, you can go as a couple to watch, and enjoy discussing which scene you liked after that.

A beautiful image from a movie
In Kita no Zero Nen, there is a scene in the snow where Yoshinaga Sayuri-san and Ohgo Suzuka-san are waiting for the husband to return, their acting in the white expanse of snow is quite beautiful.

Kamiki-san is challenging the role of Charles, wanting to act out the feel of an adult. His goal right now is Kase Ryo-san. He says that even if Kase-san wore a white T-shirt while filming he still looks cool, Kamiki-san wants to become that kind of guy.

2010.05.15 B-PASS別冊 「awesome!〠Interview

0002whhr0002ygq9

Wanting to broaden acting roles when becoming older
Hoping to experience different types of lives that hewould not have been able to in his real life.

Having joined the entertainment circle since young, Kamiki Ryunosuke grew up amongst adults. He already has a wide range of acting skills, but in reality he gives people a feeling of a humble and approachable person. This can be felt from his mild expression. Still remembered his dubbing for the 2007 movie "Arthur and the Invisibles", now 3 years have passed, in the sequel "Arthur and the Revenge of Malthazard" which will be shown soon, he continues to be Arthur's voice. Here he will talk about this role, how he performed it after becoming a youth, as well as his personal growth.

-How do you feel performing a character that you had played 3 years ago?
In the first installment I was in first year middle school, now I'm in my first year of high school, the difference is huge. Like me, Freddie (Highmore) who portrays Arthur has grown up too, it was hard to grasp the feel of the voice and balance of the atmosphere, that was not easy to get hold of. In the process of acting it slowly became more natural, perhaps this is the hardest piece of work I've encountered so far.

-This time there are a lot of screaming scenes right.
Yes. Furthermore, screaming and yelling or acting anxious by myself in the recording studio uses quite a lot of energy (laughs). In front of me is the mike stand, behind is the glass window. When I look behind after yelling "Waa", the director and manager are all looking at me seriously (laughs). This kind of situation is hard to adapt to, I could only nod tentatively. While recalling those times I still feel quite embarrassed (laughs).

-Compared to the previous film 3 years ago, Arthur has matured visibly in terms of his feelings in protecting others and thoughts, in what areas do Kamiki-kun think he has matured in these 3 years?
I can think through things calmly on a certain level. 3 years ago my mindset was like an elementary school student's, and I was also greatly influenced by the friends I met. After entering middle school, I met a lot of people who have different ways of thinking, my way of understanding things have broadened at once. Another area is with regards to school, I've started studying seriously (laughs).

-You have not studied seriously before?
Ahaha (laughs). Perhaps. In middle school I really hated exams, it was really depressing. But I've matured now, and still recognised the importance of studying, right now I can positively face the subjects I'm not good at. About this, I feel that my way of thinking about acting is the same.

-What has it changed into?
I will think more deeply about the role. Previously I will grasp the character's personality and mentality by reading the script, and act it out afterwards. Not it's not only that, I will take a step further and reflect on what the character is thinking about while speaking.

-This way, won't you frequently become influenced by the character?
I don't think there will be such a big influence, or to put it in another way, I can distinguish clearly between the role and reality. Perhaps it's because I do not rely too much on others after becoming a high school student, and started recognising that there are some things I have to do on my own.

-Now it should be period of rapid growth. What do you think of a strong girl like Selenia in the movie as a love interest?
I think that's really good, she can spur me on. When you are lost and confused, having someone who can push you from behind is a very fortunate thing. But it's better not to be just extremely strong; there should be a gentle side. Gentleness can move people's hearts. Thus I can easily understand the protagonist Arthur's feelings of love towards Selenia (laughs).

-Ahaha (laughs). Unable to resist the contrast. What contrast does Kamiki-kun have?
My friend says that my glare is very scary, but I've never felt that I had glared at anyone (laughs). When this friend was around, a surprising thing had just happened. It seems like my serious expression that time made others feel scared (laughs). I won't usually get angry or impatient, so being told this was surprising to me (laughs).

-Not getting angry comes from Kamiki-kun's own optimism?
Perhaps that is the reason. Firstly, I've not felt that it was hard even in the middle of work. That's because the joy is even greater. While filming "The Great Yokai Wars", there was a scene where I had to submerge in waters 3meters deep, and at that time I did not know how to swim, so it was very painful. But I managed to overcome it by borrowing the actor's perseverance, even though my nose had never gone through so much pain before. But it is because of this that I am not scared of water anymore, I guess it can be considered one of my growths. This is also an opportunity I had because I am an actor. If I have this line of thinking, maybe I won't feel that it's hard. Furthermore I can change my mood around, and the times where I am confused had lessened.

-How do you change your mood?
Before shooting light and happy scenes I will match by listening to cheerful songs. Recently I like listening to flumpool's "What's flumpool!?". I can perk up after listening to that. Other songs that I listen to often are Fukuyama Masaharu's "Zankyou" and Mr Children's "SUPERMARKET FANTASY". Basically I like listening to lighthearted popular music. Music can really adjust a person's emotions, it's a good thing. I often go to the lives of the bands I like. Although it's a different genre from acting, but it can make people feel touched, so I like it very much.

-What other roles do you want to act?
I want to act in a great love story*. Previously in "Little DJ" I had experienced it a little, but in that movie the elements of human nature are portrayed more than love, so next time I want to act in a love story that will make people feel embarrassed (laughs) Other than that I also want to try a delinquent role. I want to broaden acting roles when becoming older, hoping to experience different types of lives that I would not have been able to in my real life.

2010 SPEC magazine Interview

0001bs1e

Displaying his overwhelming SPEC since episode 1, Ninomae keeps attracting the viewers.
In episode 5 Ninomae's and Toma's relationship is revealed.
Is "SPEC" about their showdown?

The theme is "beautiful and innocent". But it seems like that is not all.

"My mom who watched me in SPEC said, "You seem a little similar to Toda Erika". Mom is just a normal viewer, who does not know my work or the contents of the drama, but is able to say things like "Perhaps you can act as siblings". Since it's about me, so I can't tell whether we are alike or not. If we're alike, I feel a little happy (laughs)."

Kamiki Ryunosuke, talking and laughing. Even though they are a little alike, Ninomae and Toma are enemies. This mysterious role, what is his understanding of Ninomae Juichi?
"Regarding Ninomae Juichi's role, I'm trying to build layers, I had only heard from Director Tsutsumi that "Kamiki-kun's SPEC is the ability to stop time, but to put it more specifically......", there's no other information. Following the development of the story, just what kind of position is he in etc. Although it seems like there's a shady plot behind, but he doesn't seem like a totally bad child. The first time I worked together with Director Tsutsumi is as Friend in "20th Century Boys". Just that while conversing this time around, it was not linked to the previous role. There was no expectations or preconceived notions just because it's Director Tsutsumi and a strange character again (laughs). I had always been a fan of "20th Century Boys", so when I was invited to take part, I found out the role was actually as Friend (laughs). But this time when I heard that the name of the role is Ninomae, I felt that perhaps this is an extraordinary role."

Purely and innocently enjoying the extraordinary role.
"I'm simple-mindedly interested in super powers and abnormal situations, so when it's time to film the time stop scenes, I'm rejoicing inside. But it's hard on the other people, those in the surroundings have to freeze, shooting with high speed cameras also take time, perhaps everyone doesn't want to have scenes together with me (laughs)."

Pure and innocent is the theme that penetrates through in Ninomae's character.
"Regarding his mental state, I've heard that he looks like a normal high school student outwardly, but because of a certain incident, Ninomae's mental state and body are separated. Inside he is an innocent and pure elementary school student. Therefore I used "beautiful and innocent and pure" as the main theme to act. Ninomae is a normal boy himself, so he has parts which are scary. When displaying his pure and innocent side, I take note of his way of laughing too. At a scene in the stage of death in episode 2, his carefree laughter makes one shudder. But in episode 3 his laughter while displaying the keys have a pure and innocent feel. Just following the development of the story, I feel that Ninomae is not that simple. At the end of episode 7, didn't Toma suddenly point a gun at him? In this situation, normal boys would yell out in surprise. However Ninomae was calm, decidedly stopping time. Up till now Ninomae is showing 2 completely different black and white sides. But in normal circumstances, Ninomae shows his dark side, I think that I need to act the feel of a normal boy in this side."
