What would you say your genre split is like in Japanese music?

I love the indie and urban J-scenes and I'm also progressively growing interest in the electro scene, I just have no idea where to start.

I honestly can't tell the difference between groups like Morning Musume, AKB and Berryz musically and that's not a good thing because they're relevant examples of the current pop scene and they're garbage.

mine has shifted a lot over the years. It used to be pop and ballads being the majority but it's more balanced out with rock now. Urban and electronic being in there a little bit but mostly just for a little change up when i'm bored.

With more rock music means more male vocalists for me also since my music used to be like 90% female, now it's down to maybe 75%

Yeah my amount of male acts has definitely increased over the years.

It's predominantly split between Independent Rock and Electronica! Independent Rock takes up quite a bit of the material that I listen to because it has had such a large impact and takes up the majority on its own but it's strongly focused around Noise, Experimental and more aggressive acts. Electronica also takes up quite a bit of the music that I listen to but I prefer it too be much more toned down and subtle. Still listen to a decent amount of Urban and Pop but they make up a small majority and haven't cared much for either genre in the last few years.

It's more Electro/Dance for me these days, but I still like to find R&B/Urban artists to listen to, and I'll go back and listen to old R&B/Urban albums a lot. I listen to less rock than I used to, but when I find something I like I'll stick with it. For Pop it's mostly chamber pop (Kalafina, Kokia, etc).

AKB is the only real relevant one in your list there. While Hello Project groups have kind of gotten a bit of a boost, they're nowhere near as relevant as they were in the early 2000s (they had better music back then, too...their songs are just bad now).

I'd say LDH groups are more relevant than them (which is great because they're actually putting out good music).

In terms of number of Japanese acts I listen to, I would say rock and electronic take a good chunk of the pie. Most of the rock I listen to falls somewhere in the alternative/experimental spectrum. Some acts I like are vaguely classifiable as indie, folk and/or jazz. But in any case, I do listen quite a lot to my favorite pop acts.

It used to be mostly rock (including metal) but now I listen to an about equal amount of pop I think. Also really like the use of classical instruments (so baroque pop/rock?) and some electronic is fine too. but generally I don't care that much about the genre as long as I like melody, vocals and lyrics.
