What is your criteria for judging a Korean group?

(I'm truly sorry if my English isn't top notch, my main language is Spanish.)

Okay so, this topic is purely out of my intrigue only...

I've been reading a lot of forums and posts on different sites lately, and I've seen different people judge groups in different ways.

I've seen most people judge a group musically before they get personal with the members, this is very very common.

You should, no, MUST give the group's songs a listen, you might like it or you might not... To you, does that mean it's an automatic thumbs down to the group if you didn't like their music? Regardless of how talented they are vocally?

Or are you one of those people who searches the boys/girls first and then later listens to their music?

Or even if you didn't like the music for personal reasons, do you regardless give the group a chance because you might like their visuals/personalities/talents/variety skills?

Post your view on it below!

your english is flawless

but to answer your question: usually, it is a group's music that will pull me in

but sometimes i will see them on other shows with my biases and then find them intriguing, thus leading me to check them out and stan them for their personalities (this is how i became a hottest)

If the music is good, I'll listen. There's a lot of talented people with shit music and I don't really bother with them. Visuals and personalities don't do anything for me. I have too much music to listen to to get hung up on someone because I like their plastic face or coached personality.

Music first. Then like talent, live-singing, dancing, I suppose. Personalities/charm is usually last, I don't really watch shows with groups whose music I don't like. Although there are some groups I respect/admire as people but I don't like their music (such as BIGBANG).

If they have shitty personalities like some members of T-ara, then it turns me off to the group.

Hmm, obviously if I like the music a group puts out I 'll be interested in them, and down the line stan them if they're lovable and kawaii (but I'd stay only if they kept releasing stuff I like). Generally, if I consistently don't like the sound or musical direction a group has I won't be a fan of them, even if they're super talented. I'd watch covers of songs they do, but other than that I'd leave them alone.

Number 1 Priority is how the music sounds

I usually check out multiple songs from groups title tracks and non title tracks

If their title tracks suck but their album is pretty good then I'll take it into consideration..

Then live shows/interviews/variety shows

For me, a group has to really pull me in and get my attention whether it's their music or their variety skills.. but it's mostly music/singing ability

I judge by the music, like most people. If I contiuously like their music after a multitude of releases, then I will probably checkout the members and what not. That is, unless the song really sticks out to me then I look further into the group almost immediately.

But, correct me if I'm wrong, don't the idols practically never actually compose the songs?

If you signed a contract with a company, and you're not a composer, doesn't that mean somebody writes the song for you and you sing it? Whether you like it or not?

Can we judge a group's music if they can't even judge it themselves and are blindly forced into singing it?

Or are they entitled to an opinion on the song given to them?

Pls someone let me know omg I'm curious

It's strictly dependent on the music that they've released throughout their career! Genuinely look for material that is unique, experimental, and audacious but that often isn't found in K-pop. I'll predominantly focus on production and their music because there are often times that I'm surprised by some of the material released by Korean groups. However, it's a bit difficult to fully like a K-pop group because what I generally look for and seek out in music isn't always easily found but it's still worth a shot because there are moments when it occurs. Music and Ideas genuinely catch my attention! It's mainly dependent on the music that they are releasing and how they are utilizing their skill set and ideas behind their music. Don't care for your personality or looks because that doesn't have anything to do with music. simple!

Ah, thank you so much!

I have to agree, 2pm's songs aren't the best neither are they the worst, I could say I have about....two? songs? possibly? by them in my iPod, and I'm a huge 2pm fan anyway

Their personalities are asjkajlklaklajs

If their music/image suits my taste. Done.

^ This.

Visuals and their personalities, on the other hand, are simply things that will either enhance or worsen my love for a particular Korean group.
