Do you think we should control population growth in developing countries with high birth rates?

While it's inhumane to do something like that, I can see the other side.

But I don't think lower population always correlates with more advanced countries.

Imo people who breed out of control for the sake of religion or bigger money help from the government should be stopped.

Maybe because those more advanced countries have a more educated population, they are more well off and don't need to have a lot of children for more money.

Proper education is the key. You can tell somebody not to do something until you're blue in the face, but unless they actually understand why then it's not gonna make much of a difference. Take the show Teen Mom for example.... that did more to reduce teen pregnancy rates than anything else in years, and it's because it made teenagers really understand why it's a bad idea to have kids when you're not ready for them instead of just knowing it. Making people fully understand why it's a bad idea to have too many kids, and then teaching them how to avoid it, will make the most difference.

I mean you could just go through and sterilize everybody, but that won't fix the problem, it'll just oppress the population...

The more "educated" or industrialized a country becomes, the lower the birth rate is. Do you think we should limit the growth of population in developing countries such as China/India/etc.?

Discuss.

The number one way to decrease birth rate is to increase education of women. This has been proven true time and time again. Even if most of the population is still in poverty, if women are highly educated, then birth rates will be very low: see Kerala in India.

There is no need for any other kind of population growth, as forced sterilization, one-child policy, etc. are all poor substitutes for education, and do not bring the multiplier benefits that education does.

China's current growth rate is extremely low, so low that the population will shrink soon, which is an issue. India has had a long history of violent and forced birth control that has not been as effective as expected and has created lasting negative social and economic repercussions.

Yes! They need to start using condoms and birth controls. I heard there are countries that see condoms and birth control as taboo :/ I think they should get over their feelings about condoms and birth control pills and start thinking smarter. Having lots of kids isn't going to make your situation better if you're in a bad economic situation... And they should make condoms free for them :ahmagah:

If proper education occurs then it would do wonders in slowing the growth of the human population more. The human population is taking longer to get to the next billion than when we got to 7 billion which is a good thing but education has been proven to be beneficial. I've seen a documentary where they implemented and educational program for women in this one part of India and it had a positive effect on the women. They were educated on contraceptives and the very women who were educated then went off to educate other women

I think families should have only 2 children.. like 2 children per family only, or maybe even 1 child per family only. In every country. But I really think this way because the earth needs to heal from all the damage humans did over so many centuries. Overpopulation of humans is not a good thing at all for the earth.

humans dont know how to discipline themselves tbhsome cant even feed themselves but they keep making babies

A lot of these impoverished nations have little to no access to contraceptives, with no contraceptives how are they supposed to stop having babies? Secondly, to reduce the population women should be educated and also be given access to contraception. Due to high infant mortality rates, people have many children in hopes that a few survive. If health care is improved, and there is easy access to contraceptives the birth rate will gradually decline.. Its not really about self control, but more about the socio-economic circumstances.
