Infographic Shows The Differences Between The Diseases We Donate To, And The Diseases That Kill Us

I recall people having some issues with the fundraisers for Breast cancer. There is the point that there is a ton of money going to it, sometimes at the expense of other disease, but I think the bigger issue people state is the pink washing. Plus, people don't like Susan G. Komen since apparently a lot of money goes to them but they don't use even 20% of towards cures, treatment, and research.

People are afraid of cancer because it's something that you can't really predict you'll get, and even healthy people can get it.

you could argue the same with heart disease and COPD....

I think it's all about marketing. You can't deny you see pink everywhere you go on Breast cancer awareness month.

heart disease and diabetes related deaths can be some of the most preventable deaths, people can donate to themselves by living healthier lives. whereas with the two cancer, theres little you can do to prevent them. not saying money shouldnt go to funding research for heart disease and diabetes, just that it makes sense that cancer research is the most donated when its not claiming nearly as much lives as some of the top killers.

But usually the main causes for those tend to be lifestyle related, such as having a poor diet, smoking and/or sedentary habits. Not to mention that they are more obvious and easier to diagnose than most cancers.

Marketing does play a big role of course.

Not necessarily :/

Heart disease strikes randomly and when it does it comes with a bang. After you are diagnosed with it, you never know when it's going to act up and it usually catches people off guard

As a person who has a heart disease and witnessed many of my relatives dying of breast cancer, I can tell you both are random and not necessarily lifestyle related.
