Why do white Americans refer to half white half Asian people as 'Asian' ? why not 'white'?

asians will either accept a half white half asian person as their own or refer to them as biracial, but never simply as 'white'

 

whites on the other hand will most of the time refer to someone of half white half asian descent as 'asian' but sometimes biracial

I remembering reading the imdb pretty little liars comments section where many white users were proclaiming how the show features ALOT of asian characters and is highly diverse, with many other white users agreeing with him/her

 

funny thing is, there are NO fully asian characters on the show at all, just 3 half white half asian characters that look racially ambigious, amongst hundreds of fully white characters

 

it just seemed really weird to me, i was like.. huh? where the asian characters at tho? i don't see any

It's not just white people, it's everybody. Everybody in the US was raised to view people as "white" or "not white"; "mixed" isn't a popular identity.

And usually wasian people could be classified as asian because they display more asian traits than white traits. With some wasian people you can't tell they are half white either. If you don't know a person race off the back you called hem the race they look. People call my boyfriend  and  brother white, but they are half Asian. I am called mixed because I look mixed because of my eye color and asian features. It has nothing to do with white people only.

Seriously though someone's race isn't really that interesting or important to me. If they look Asian I'll just call them Asian if I need to (but honestly in what context would I even bring up their race? The whole premise is silly)

White genes are very recessive, and most people will identify as mixed

not really.. some half white half asians look more white than asian and some look more asian than white but for sure most of them don't look fully asian nor fully white (many look racially ambiguous)

 

also, i'm speaking about when white people know the ethnic background of a half white half asian person but still calls the person 'asian'  like the pll example i wrote in the op

I always get asked what ethnicity I am, and I would never say 'black, white or Asian', mixed is preferable to myself. Though some do not mind or do, in fact, identify as 'black' or 'Asian'. We should just do actual genetic test on everyone and give them a label, like 50 EU (European), 50 EA(east asian) and have that be their racial distinction instead of white/black/hispanic etc.

 

It's like hispanics switching to white if they want..  it's arbitrary

 

racial labeling is fucking up in america and its just whatever you put down

 

so most black people would become 80 SubSahara 20 EU etc and it would actually be accurate to your genetics
