Be in an idol group where all the members are above average in singing and dancing even though it's not their position, are almost always nearly in sync, harmonize really well, but have mediocre or low variety skills (opt. 1)

or

be in an idol group where all members are mediocre in their singing and dancing unless its their speciality but are likable and appealing in the fact that they have amazing variety skills, great fanservice, and are really funny. (opt. 2)

option 2. Being generally likable and good at variety creates longer-lasting and stronger fanbases bc the fans feel a stronger, more personal connection between idol-and-fan, which will help in the long run if a controversial rumor (that has the potential to ruin the group) comes up. lol at me looking for security in a career that has little stability to begin with

Most idols are mediocre at "talents" that aren't their specialty, anyway. Hell, there are idols that are mediocre at their named specialty (you know who you are wheeze), but their group is still blooming with a strong fanbase.

There are chances to improve upon your skills post-debut (Taemin, Dongwoon, etc), so I think option 2 would be better in the end. I think if I were to be an idol, my fans would be a twinkling light through the toil and sleepless schedules that I have to deal with just to make ends meet, and option 2 allows for a better "bridge" so to speak.

Option 2.

Option 1 I could be nugu and have all those things and eventually disband

At least with Option 2, we're most certain to gain love, recognition, and a fair amount of success eventually. Besides, if me and my members are good at our specialty then we basically make up for each other's differences.

Things are by no means exact, but I feel like Option 1 kind of describes EXO and Option 2 kind of describes Suju.

EXO's members (counting 12) stand out in at least a skill (except for Kris lol) but most of them can be as fun as a wall of concrete, variety speaking.

Meanwhile SJ, originally meant to be a rotative group, has got less than half of their members that don't really stand out in singing or dancing but virtually all of them are great at variety and luring attention.

TBH, if #2 had a good team behind them (in terms of music selection, and obviously by "good" I mean "appealing to my taste") and sound good enough in recording, it would probably be #2.  Well, it would be #2 if #1 did not also have a "good" team behind them (and I'd probably just kind of be siiiiiiiigh about #1).  But I don't really have much experience in stanning groups, it's basically only been the single group, and actually I'm not very good at sitting down and watching things so maybe the variety would not actually pull me in.  Hm.  Well, imo if I somehow found myself liking groups such as #1 and #2, stanning #2 would be more fun, because I really don't watch live performances that much anymore, not even music shows (however live those wind up being)....

EDIT: oh wait, which would I rather be in.  Um.  Well, neither necessarily guarantees success (I'm not even sure one is more likely to lead to lasting success over the other).  As far as what I'd prefer to be, I'd prefer to not suck at what I prioritize, ie. singing and then dancing.
