Anyone Ever Finished The Duke of Edinburgh Award?

I've done silver and it was really difficult, but yeah I guess it's worth doing. My school recommended that you shouldn't stop at bronze and continue to at least silver or gold if possible.

Was the expedition okay?

Seems like its putting everyone off, don't think anyone likes camping.

Tbh the expedition was the least of my worries but that's mostly because I enjoy camping and I've been on more difficult expeditions with The Outward Bound Trust. But I know a lot of people where DofE was their first expedition and they really enjoyed it, plus bronze is a lot easier than silver and gold.

What I found more difficult was filling my activities log, doing volunteering, skills and physical activities regularly and sticking to a schedule.

Ah okay, did you do it with friends? like did you find activities and volunteered with people you knew?

I'm assuming everyone camps togethere, boys and girls right?

Do it if you have the time is what I would say. I tried to start bronze but gave up half way LOL. Apparently its not considered much anymore by unis

Seriously?

Thought that getting a bronze or so would help me get employed and such in the future

The bronze award is being offered to my school and has anyone ever done it, how was it and was it worth it?

The websites here if anyones interested: http://www.dofe.org/default.aspx

I'm a youth worker, so I'm currently working with a group of young people with their Bronze Award. It's pretty easy (aside from the expedition which you may find tough). You can pretty much do anything. E.g. with the group I work with for the Skills section - I conduct a cooking session teaching them how to cook. For the Physical, I take them trampolining and for the Volunteering; they help with making a community garden.

Like I said previously, the expedition is the hard part - depending on how active and outdoors-y you are it can be tough. The young people I work with are not, so for their first expedition they did a 2 day trek and ofcourse they all hated it  My friend finished her Gold at the beginning of the year; so for the final expedition they had to scale a mountain in Scotland. Because the weather was so bad they had to be mountain rescued

As for it's merit; I think it's more beneficial for younger teens and also disadvantaged youths. Aside from being a talking point and interview answer, I don't think it does much for getting into uni etc. It's just a good experience and looks good on your CV. Plus if you are out of work and/or education it looks better to have taken part in it rather than doing nothing.

Yeah I did the expedition with my friends and boys and girls camped together, we just had separate tents. I had to find most of my activities myself but some of my activities were with my friends too.
