YG is really setting iKon up to be the "bad boys", so WINNER can be the "good boys".

The differentiation has been obvious since WIN but much has happened since then, hence this thread.

 

 

Keep in mind of stuff ranging from WIN to current day like :

• Team A being promoted as do or disband in WIN era due to older age
• Jinwoo's sympathetic editing by MNET in the start of WIN showing his humble island boy background, family sob story with dad
• KSY, LSH, Mino all having fractured journeys towards debuting, ranging from audition shows to failed debuts
• Mino being thrown away as the leader, geting replaced by KSY in WIN by YG himself, giving WINNER a more wholesome softer feel than sweggie hep hap feel
• WINNERTV whipped up right after WIN to tackle biggest criticism of Team A : teamwork, lots of variety show-ish team building exercises sprinkled by the PD to address this. 180 turn from 2NE1TV's fisheye BTS style.
• WINNER's concept constantly mediaplayed prior to debut to be different from BB, ends up with chic model concept with a softer mid tempo majority album
• Double B shoved in SMTM3 year after WIN, B.I being mocked for his bratty entitled image and lack of skill, Bobby choosing Illionaire, saying 'Fuck YG' swearing non-stop and picking battles with big shots, desperately trying to rid the useless idol rapper stereotype
• IKON's image & sound being hep hap dols and being built around double B just like 2NE1's being built around CL & BB's being built around GD's. Hence, whatever the face of the group does, entire group gets the label stamped on them.

I agree that WINNER was set up to be a versatile group with a friendly image from the start. But that image was completely unrelated to iKON's image. In fact, during WIN, iKON had this "cute, wholesome, young boys having innocent fun" vibe, which was kinda ruined after double B's stints in SMTM3 and YG's comment about iKON focusing exclusively on YG style sweggy hep hap . That image change had nothing to do with WINNER, but I do think they are gonna push it further now.

Not necessary "good" or "bad" boys but yes, YG has made an effort to set apart their images because he doesnt debut groups which overlap each other.
