WON Hallyu 18,527
1. Chen and Xiumin's korean accent is evident in Exo M's songs. Even chinese listeners dunno what they're singing about. 2. There was no point of adding the 4 Chinese members to break into the Chinese market to begin with. Exo would be just as popular in China if they're all korean. Look at SNSD. Did they need a chinese or japanese idol to be big in China or Japan? No. 3. SM basically tried to force kpop fans to listen kpop in mandarin with weird pronunciation. Chinese kpop fans like kpop because it's KOREAN btw. It's like asking you english speakers whether you prefer your bias group to sing in broken english or Korean. If we wanted to listen to an english song, we wouldnt be listening to the kpop ver. Logic. 4. Tao, Chen and Xiumin do not fit Chinese beauty standards. Sehun and Chanyeol however does and you can see how popular they are there. The hilarious thing is that Xiumin is getting all that love in Korea for his looks now which is epic fail from SM. 5. SM was biased towards Exo K to begin with. They intentionally made Exo K more superior than M and the originally lineup of Exo was evident of that. Exo M was like a last minute idea. Also SM's goal is ultimately to make their kpop groups popular in China not just Exo M. Agree?
Nev Schulman 7,948
Well adding Chinese members is a benefit though, they save money on Chinese tutoring lessons and they can break through faster (less time needed to study Chinese since it would have been only 2 members) The group was just filled with bad luck and other shit

arceersro 1,004
maybe if exo had stuck to the original lineup (EXO-K + chen) then maybe all this drama would have been avoided lmao. even chen was depressed when he found out he was in M (and maybe throw xiumin in there too)

YaniBear 3,055
EXO-M wouldn't fail if SM only promoted them better... They were doing pretty well as a unit in China during debut not until SM shipped them back to Korea only to left them in the shadows...

Please tell us which is the Chinese beauty standard if you claim those three doesn't fit. They have a "standard" ? I didn't know EXO is seen as a Mister contest, I thought is a musical band. The hilarious thing is you are not even an EXO fans but make thread about EXO claiming things. You are not even a Chinese but you claim the Chinese listeners don't understand them. ehmy 1,931
I don't think fans actually listen to Korean music solely because it's in Korean. If you have the same sort of sound of music and the Chinese pronunciation isn't bad, then it would have worked. It was working for a while as Kris and Luhan and pulled in a lot of fans that EXO might not have gained otherwise. Even though EXO-K has always been more popular than EXO-M, there are still plenty of fans that came in only because of EXO-M. The real reason EXO-M failed because SM wasn't prepared to handle the foreign members and their needs, especially not when those members received opportunities elsewhere that were more reasonable than what they were working for in Korea. Do you speak chinese, that you can say that? Because I understand them fine. . Exo-M had a good start in China, but SM let their opportunities pass, when they stopped M to promote in China in 2013. Non-fans or casual listeners, who was interested in them started to forget them. Funny, that some random kid on the internet think to know, what we chinese like
loeyeol 3,808
1) the accent isn't THAT bad now... at least I can understand them now. LOL 2) but with the china members, they can get their music across to a WIDER group of fans 3) this i kinda agree..coz I group the exo-m chinese songs into the 'cpop' category >< 4) this depends on how a person view beauty as..no? I personally find them handsome~~ 5) i agree with this...(but exo-m is having more promos now...) but i really love exo-m <

pocket 13
For people who think it's pointless to have two versions of a song;; the thing is, it's not the same people singing in the versions! Take Two Moons, EXO-M's version is very much stronger than EXO-K's. Also, as a Chinese, I think the lyrics are still understandable. Nevertheless, I won't disagree on the fact that SM really screwed up on promoting EXO-M as fairly as possible...

ilesa 1,518
Agree? no. EXO-M sold many albums, they are right behind EXO-K. How can you even say they are a failure? EXO got attention because they had this concept with twin legend.

The reason why the majority of kpop idols got popularity is because of their looks not talent. The reason why Luhan was the most popular in China was because he fitted the Chinese beauty standards unlike Chen and Xiumin just like Chanyeol and Baekhyun fits the Korean standards.
