  1. 1. Do you think non-human creatures helped humans become civilized?

Around the time of Alexander the Great, a Babylonian scholar/priest called Berossus translated the ancient works of his native country into the Greek language. The complete work, which was several volumes, is lost but what remains are excerpts quoted by later Greek, Latin, and Arabic writers.

The verification that what he wrote were legitimate translations from ancient tablets is based on the fact that those exact tablets were found in archeological excavations. These tablets are even centuries older than Berossus, and while many have been found a lot more are missing or destroyed. Berossus mentioned several historical and legendary events (mainly conquests, wars, the Flood), lists of kings, religious and academic knowledge that match older and later sources. He faithfully passed along information that was available to him, so we can be sure he wasn't a bullshitter.

The one time that Berossus doesn't mention something that originated from mankind or the gods is when he talks about "fish creatures" who came from the sea to civilize humans (this supposedly occurred before the Sumerians).

The following is a summary of what Berossus wrote.

At Babylon there was (in these times) a great resort of people of various nations, who inhabited Chaldæa, and lived in a lawless manner like the beasts of the field. In the first year there appeared, from that part of the Erythræan sea which borders upon Babylonia, an animal destitute of reason, by name Oannes, whose whole body (according to the account of Apollodorus) was that of a fish; that under the fish's head he had another head, with feet also below, similar to those of a man, subjoined to the fish's tail. His voice too, and language, was articulate and human; and a representation of him is preserved even to this day.

This Being was accustomed to pass the day among men; but took no food at that season; and he gave them an insight into letters and sciences, and arts of every kind. He taught them to construct cities, to found temples, to compile laws, and explained to them the principles of geometrical knowledge. He made them distinguish the seeds of the earth, and shewed them how to collect the fruits; in short, he instructed them in every thing which could tend to soften manners and humanize their lives. From that time, nothing material has been added by way of improvement to his instructions. And when the sun had set, this Being Oannes, retired again into the sea, and passed the night in the deep; for he was amphibious. After this there appeared other animals like Oannes, of which Berossus proposes to give an account when he comes to the history of the kings.

This story from Berossus is theoretically one of the most ancient that could be transmitted to us from the past. It might go back as far as 8,000 years ago.

Modern era <-- Berossus' translation <-- Babylonian tablets <-- Sumerian tablets <-- Pre-Sumerian oral storytelling

Was this account of how the people who became the Sumerians/Babylonians getting their early civilization based on something that actually happened or just complete fantasy? It's still somewhat of a mystery how they were able to become so advanced almost out of nowhere.

someones been playing too much assassins creed

i definitely do think aliens have been in contact with humans but i dont think it was on a big scale, pseudo history shows like ancient aliens have been debunked

Yet people believe in some "almighty god" who needs humans to do the dirty work for him. I say this is slightly more believable.

Intelligent fish-like creatures from the sea don't necessarily have to be aliens. If it's possible, they can be just another species that evolved millions of years longer than human deep in the oceans and beyond our reach. Right now its easier to explore outer space than the deepest ocean or underground.

There are a lot of stories about star gates being hidden in the ocean, hence, reports of UFOs quickly appearing and disappearing. If this were true, it could very-well mean that these fish-like beings were Aliens who came from these star gates.

I'm so torn on that show. It starts to get interesting then that one guy with the wayward hair starts showing up and I start laughing and cannot stop! :._.:
