I don't know if there is a thread for this

I mean just in curiosity, because I mean there is a couple of mv, and music that are about homosexuality.

Even the dramas and the musicals I mean its kinda already in the media a little bit but I mean i don't know

Hopefully in like a ten years they would. But then again I don't know what the culture is like

like chinese people  theyre are very old fashioned and conservative well i mean in my family i dont know what other families are.

What are your thoughts?

I think it's inevitable, especially since it seems like Korea has a lot of outside influences as well...but it will probably take a very long time to change the stigmas associated with homosexuality.

As to whether homosexuals will ever be treated as true equals, that's a whole nother question

maybe 50 years from now, maybe 100, maybe never

even individualistic societies have a problem with it, i imagine it's much worse for collectivist societies where maintaining the status quo is of utmost importance

the only thing that i'd imagine might help them to become more progressive is globalization, but even with that we're still talking about a country that is altogether a-ok with blackface and the like in 2014

not to say that they're bad people or they should be shamed, just that their values and ideals are still really disconnected from western society

no. this goes for any other country too, even in the US.

oh no i know some other countries are not open as americans Im just asking a question

sorry if that sounds offensives

The U.S is not the epitome of progressiveness in the modern world lol, it's lagging behind several other western nations on issues like gender equality, race equality and homosexual rights.

I think there is a pretty significant shift occurring.  I judge this based on how much I've seen homosexuality come up on KBS which is generally quite conservative in its contents.  There is currently airing a show called Naeil's Cantabile in which one of the male characters makes quite clear that he has feelings for the Lead played by Joo Won.  It is set in a music college and his attraction is not treated weirdly or out of place at all.   Also Hong Suk Chun on After School's Beauty Bible is quite overt about his homosexuality.

If things continue to head in the direction they are, then absolutely. Each generation of Koreans is quite a bit more accepting than the last for the last several generations.

I think the view on homosexuality is slightly changed for better in the U.S. There are already 35 states with gay marriage are legal and other states where gay marriages were striked down by federal judges are awaiting appeals from the states. More than half of the  U.S. population support LGBT community.

In Australia, a lot of people are slowly accepting homosexuality but it the same in South Korea. Aussie are very strict catholics and gay marriage was reject last year. The young generation are more open minded about it than older generation. I don't think South Korea will accept homosexuality yet. Maybe, one day it will be.
