Irrelephant 4,710
Ray Rice has won his appeal of his indefinite suspension, his attorney, Peter Ginsberg, told USA TODAY Sports on Friday. The punishment is vacated immediately, meaning Rice – who has been eligible to sign with a team throughout his ban – is eligible to play if a team signs him. Rice, 27, initially was suspended two games for a domestic violence incident involving his then-fiancée at an Atlantic City casino in February. The NFL made it an indefinite suspension Sept. 14 and the Baltimore Ravens cut him after video surfaced of Rice punching out the woman. Among other things, the NFL Players Association argued in the appeal that Rice was subjected to double jeopardy based on the same set of facts and had his due process rights under the collective bargaining agreement violated. The NFL argued the video was new evidence. Earlier this month, former U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones oversaw two days of testimony in Rice's appeal hearing. Rice, his wife, Janay Rice, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome were among the people to testify. In February, Rice and, Palmer, were charged with simple assault. The Atlantic City prosecutor's office later dropped the charge against her. In March, Rice was indicted by a grand jury on the more serious charge of third-degree assault. The charge carried a potential sentence of three to five years in prison. After the indictment, Rice and Palmer married. In May, Rice entered a program for first-time offenders that would clear his record of the criminal charge if he met certain conditions, including participation in counseling. On July 24, Goodell announced Rice would be suspended for two games once the regular season began. The punishment was heavily criticized as too lenient and sparked a series of changes within the league with how it handles domestic abuse. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2014/11/28/ray-rice-suspension-overturned-nfl-appeal/19182415/ I like the NYTimes article a lot better, but copying and pasting is locked, so I didn't bother. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/29/sports/football/ray-rice-suspension-overturned-in-arbitration.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=photo-spot-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news

Symphonyâ„¢ 11,329
If Michael Vick is allowed to play again why are people shocked he can play again? Meanwhile Michael Sam isn't gonna get a chance to play because he is gay. You are allowed to play if you are a criminal and a woman beater in the NFL, but if you are gay you can't? God Bless America....

God Bless America.... Umm they dropped him cause he sucked. He was only famous bc he was gay and not for talent. And now no other team wants to draft him bc if they ever do happen to have to drop him they'll be labeled homophobic by the lgbt community for kicking out a gay member. God Bless America.... do you watch football? Michael Sam was simply not good enough. He was picked up by a team full of veterans and players who play his position...and others on special team (the only place he'd have a shot)... who were clearly just better than he is. His draft camp results were shockingly and notably unimpressive.... especially compared to his university career....Michael Sam got as far as he did... BECAUSE he's gay. Perhaps there were teams who didn't try to draft him as result of his sexual orientation.... but compared to his draft competition....you can absolutely argue that all the hype America... made about him being homosexual... played a huge roll in even the second chance... he got to prove himself worthy of investment. More like.... God Bless America... country that gives a gay male athlete an ESPY award...simply because they are a gay male athlete.
cowgirlbebop 3,908
As he should have won the appeal. What he did was heinous, BUT he is a member of the NFLPA and he did sign the CBA, which entitles him to certain rights that the NFL violated simply for PR reasons. I dont have to agree with what he did to respect his legal rights. If Michael Vick is allowed to play again why are people shocked he can play again? God Bless America.... No, Michael Sam isnt playing because he's not that good. He was way overhyped simply BECAUSE he was gay, but when he got to the big leagues he didnt/doesnt have what it takes. LØKI 127
I'm not surprised, I heard domestic violence was quite common in the NFL players and I doubt the main demographic really cares
