Should my cousin take a semester off college?

My cousin's school term is jan-nov, so she graduated right now. US colleges start until after summer, and she was wondering if she should enroll in a local college for the first half of the year (even though those credits won't count) or do something else instead. She asked me for advise, and I'm not sure (I just started college myself), so I was hoping someone with more experience would help us out?

If those won't count then she has no business taking those courses. That time could be spent taking actual courses (online or otherwise) that could benefit her.

She can also take a job or do some volunteer work that is related to w/e her major is. Trust me, it's never too late for job experience, nor is it waste of time.

If she believes going to a local college will give her some sort of necessary experience or knowledge, then that may be an option... if no, then there's no point as she won't even receive any accountable credits. Other than that, taking a semester off will be fine.

Suggestions:

- part time/full time work

- volunteer work

- travelling/other if they already have the money

Gaining experience in various areas that don't follow a 'memorisation of material/learning -> examination and assignment' process is necessary. There are too many hopeless people out there with no to little experience, other than knowing some information that they've learnt in their biology course.

if she isn't going to get credit for it then don't do it. Trust me nothing sucks more than putting all your work into getting a good grade and it being worth nothing at your Uni

I'd suggest to get a job, save up some money and get some experience like that. She could travel or volunteer she could gain experience for the future there aswell. Or slouch at home lol
