I like to experiment and play with all the characters but for now I think my best are Zelda, Zero Suit Samus, Ness, Rosalina & Luma, Ike, Lucina, and Sonic! Ugh, I have my Wii U, but I'm holding out on Smash till Winter break to avoid crashing and burning on finals. Which is inevitable anyways. I've always used Ike, Roy, Link (even though he was super unbalanced) and Zelda.
