Hong Kong singer GEM Tang has addressed the recent controversy regarding her supposed diva behaviour while dealing with the media.

As reported on Sina News, the singer was previously slammed for being an arrogant diva, after her manager Cheung Tan refused to entertain the print media's wishes of interviewing the singer in a separate meeting from the digital media outlets.

Cheung stressed that GEM will only conduct one round of interviews and even threatened to cancel the press conference if the members of the media refused to abide by the rules.

However, the manager started singing in a different tune when reporters began to leave the venue, saying that GEM has eventually decided to do a separate interview.

The manager's attitude reflected badly on the singer, with many saying that Cheung Tan's behaviour mirrored GEM's own arrogance.

However, while speaking to the media recently, the singer apologised for the incident, saying that she was unaware of the issue.

"I am only a performing artiste, and have no clue about administrative matters. But I hope that there is a mutual understanding among everybody," said GEM.

She also clarified that the team had just recently added some new members and that they will need time to improve themselves.

In regard to her expensive concert tickets, GEM said that the most expensive will enable the ticket-holder to experience the behind-the-scene atmosphere of the concert, as well as other VIP privileges.

Why does she need to do a separate round of interviews for print media? Digital media is probably more influential than print nowadays anyway.

The message I got from this is that the media are the arrogant ones, not G.E.M. and if you dont give them freebies or keep them happy then theyll start spreading bad rumours about you.

^ exactly......they just need a misleading headline and that's all most ppl will read...

GEM is an arrogant bitch diva, rapist, child molester, whore, etc...whatever they want to pin on her..

and her haters/PRs for other companies will make sure it's over the cyberspace.

artists are always at the mercy of the media...

The thing is, how many of gems audience read the papers or magazines? I'm sure most of them just follow gem or her fan groups on social media to find out whats going on. Print media is dying. Even if it wasn't, print journalists aren't better than digital journalists. Her team could have just stood their ground, I would have respected them more from that than apologising over new staff or whatever.

There is a translation error here...it's not print media vs digital/online media...

it's the mainstream broadcast media vs print media....and print media in HK has online sites/outlets as well...

The reporters decided to leave because Tan Chang got cheeky and told them he's going to cancel the press con if they don't like the arrangement.

Anyways, print media in HK runs online outlets as well and outsource their news coverage to other countries in Asia...whatever they put online gets copied and pasted all over forums and social media...so they are quite influential to the younger online community, and what's worse is they usually have no journalistic intregity...most of the anti-GEM inaccurate news coverage came from print media.  Mainstream broadcast media is usually a bit more neutral.

As usual, they try to make it sound like GEM is being a bitch when she has nothing to do with it

Thanks. That makes more sense, I never thought to look at original source of the story. I wish they would support gem more anyway, im sure we can agree she's their best hope for a global hk star.

that's never gonna happen ...what has the media outlets have to gain from that....and the outlets have afilliation with other record companies..

alot of the younger generation has this negative, zero sum mentality..stars are there to be ripped apart, they only root for the underdog....so really, HK is really the same as urban USA.

Local pride ;)

media = business = $$$$$

only works if local pride sells magazines and online hits....

i don't see much local pride in HK these days...

just alot of infighting and "the good days are gone thanks to the Chinese government" sentiments
