Have you ever self-diagnosed?

I've done that, and the symptoms I am having apparently match with... cancer/tumor.

Well, I should've done a check up actually. I'd say self-diagnosing is good for research, but we should not entirely trust them. At least not until we consult someone who is expert in those symptoms and diseases.

Everybody does to some degree.

People should use the internet less for inducing paranoia in themselves and more for research and education after they've gone to a real doctor who has actual medical training and runs real tests to get an accurate diagnosis.

Self-diagnosis is often not accurate.

We all exhibit some symptoms to varying degrees. Also when they list symptoms, one is likely to think of matching occurences of such symptoms etc.

The woes of first being a psych student tbh. I self-diagnosed with so many mental illnesses it was crazy. But anyway, please don't self-diagnose for mental disorders either, because we all exhibit certain thoughts behaviours on a spectrum etc.. think of it like a normal distribution. Only if it gets 1. deviant, 2. dysfunctional, 3. dangerous, and 4. causes distress  to clinical levels, usually is it a real "disorder"

Anyway, there's a term for reading and self-diagnosing health too much: hypochondriac. And the internet and the accessibility of medical information online is just exacerbating it tbh.

No because it's a stupid idea. It's a doctors job to diagnose you as they are the experts, they don't do years of training for nothing. I see people self diagnosing themselves with depression or schizophrenia on tumblr and it's just disrespectful to those who actually have those problems.

But a lot of the times, it's fairly obvious if you have depression. If you're always sad, you never want to go anywhere/do anything, you can't sleep, you don't eat, and it all lasts a long time, yeah, you're depressed. Experts just diagnose based on symptoms too. And they're still human, so they make mistakes.

Mhmm. Back when I was 15/16 I was betting some wierd cloud looking spots on my body. I showed my friend and she took me to go look it up in the library and the symptoms all lead to chicken pox lolol I wouldn't have even known I had it if it wasn't for her, luckily it went away fast too.

Yeah. The other week, I had this pimple on my back, on top of my spine and I thought I was going to be diagnosed with a degenerative disease that will cripple me or something terrible. Luckily, my mom's judging face as I was telling this to her set my mind straight.

I got it right once, though. I had these flaky and itchy spots on my skin five years ago and my 'research' concluded that it was seborrheic dermatitis. I went to the dermatologist and he said it was seborrheic dermatitis so I've got that going for me.
