Ilustrado GMA TV Epic Docudrama

Ilustrado is a Philippine epic docudrama about José Rizal's early life as teenager and his tragic first love which created Maria Clara. It is topbilled by Alden Richards. Tagged as the first BayaniSerye, it is the first primetime drama series under GMA News and Public Affairs. The series premiered on the network's GMA Telebabad primetime block and worldwide via GMA Pinoy TV on October 20, 2014, replacing My Destiny.

Premise
Near the end of the 19th century, 35-year old José Rizal turned into the Philippines’ most beloved hero when he was martyred by the Spanish colonial government at Bagumbayan. He died an extraordinary man of his times: renowned novelist, poet, ophthalmologist, journalist, and linguist. But behind these achievements, there remained the story of a man every Filipino can relate and connect to. Like today’s overseas Filipino, Rizal needed to leave his family to fulfill his studies and career abroad, suffering from homesickness, and enduring a long-distance relationship with the woman he loved most. He was also the best example of the Filipino who came back home and used the knowledge and skills he learned abroad to help improve the lives of his family and countrymen.

We need to talk about this series! I didn't know this existed until last week! I hate myself! We keep on talking about how we want a good quality series for a change and THIS IS IT! But it's saddening that not many people know about this series... TT__TT

This is the only series I've watched on Philippine television. Hope GMA will keep on making Historical dramas. Some sort of Amaya concept something.

Amen to that. Do you know that other series on GMA News TV? Katipunan... I only got to see one episode and it was great too!

I wish they put this series on weekends.. I bet more people would watch it that way..

No, I haven't watched it yet. I forgot the series' title but it's about some Filipino politicians. Have you watched it? Only these kind of theme interests me, every dramas on the other hand are way to cliche and boring

Amaya was good too. This one, I LOVE THE CINEMATOGRAPHY

And it was reported that they've used a million peso software for the cinematography.

Oh, never heard of that.. You have no idea how frustrating it is to put up with Two Wives! Ugh! Forevermore, I can take.. it has improved and they're putting up themes that won't be touched on previous seryes, though still very predictable.. but Two Wives.. sdkgjfhgdfjhhdj it's such a cheap remake. And people are actually buying it..

What channel is that from? That Filipino politicians series?

I know! And I even heard they also applied the technology used for Game of Thrones.. I don't know which area.. And this may not seem to be a big deal for foreign countries. But for a Filipino to put up an effort like this is really a huge deal! And this should be encouraged!

It was aired on GMA TV! Yes, about 'Two Wives', just because the public bought the concept before now they keep on making series with the same concept uggh.

I tried watching it but my mom likes the TFC dramas better... so I never really got the chance to watch it.

I also kind of watched Amaya and Indio (but this one was not as good).

Another one that I wanted to watch was 'Elemento'.

It's a pity I've missed out on so many good GMA series. We used to switch channels GMA vs ABS-CBN from time to time back then.. but they also kept on putting up bad series too so we sort of slowly stopped watching altogether...

Yeah! Tell me about it! Everything's about kabit drama! And at this age, they should teach women to freaking move on from guys who can't treasure them!  Instead, they keep on showing how it's better to fight for men and let the country celebrate the drama!

I'm still watching ep 1 of Ilustrado.. and I wish I could watch it with better quality! I'm hoping they release it on DVD!!! If it ends up affordable to me, I'd seriously buy it!

Same... my mom won't allow for a channel switch when watching ABS-CBN... *rolling my eyes*

I've heard of Indio... and watched Amaya a bit... Regarding Amaya, Marian Rivera is too mestiza for the role. Like, honestly. This is something that annoys me in Philippine's entertainment industry.. Casting people, not based on the character they would be playing, but based on their looks and popularity alone! They don't even give a shit about acting abilities! -_-

I haven't watched every episodes of Ilustrado though, studying Rizal's life was compulsory subject to be taken by every College students in the Philippines, so whenever my family watches it, I'm bragging what'll happen next :ahmagah:

I guess Ilustrado is still getting not so good ratings.. for one it isn't that known compared to kapamilya primetime series.. Which is unfortunate..

I'm betting the DVDs would be something compulsory to watch when studying Rizal's life in the future.. hehehe :D This is so good and it needs to be seen by everyone! Especially those complaining about the abysmal quality of series that we currently have!

When I was in college, we had to watch Bayaning Third World.. which is really good and has an indie feel to it! This time, Joel Torre is the Rizal. :)

I wish GMA could make more series about other heroes!

Or like what a friend told me, a series for Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo!

That's so true but I have to say the supporting cast of Amaya were pretty good actors. Mostly the actors that played Binayaan & Hara Lingayan (sorry I don't know the names of the actresses.

I actually don't remember much about Amaya anymore.. but I remember it being a decent fantasy epic. But GMA does well in taking supporting actors indeed!

Really unfortunate. Here, Filipinos tend just to go on looks instead of talent when it comes to acting projects.

I've posted the youtube link somewhere on the first page. It's sooo good! I've seen the first one and it's such a bummer the quality of the video is pretty horrible.. But you'd see how good it's been done! Hoping I could watch this on a much better resolution too!
