Zico's controversy caused by his new song's lyrics and confederate flag on his clothing

Faggot? He said faggot? Did he seriously just wrote faggot in his lyrics? Why would you write this in your lyrics?

+) (explanation of what the word faggot means)

and the confederate flag

The flag was used during the civil war in America. This was used by groups to represent white supremacy by war criminals, it is the same class with nazi’s hakenkreuz. You’re telling me a flag that advocates  the slavery/discrimination towards blacks was used by a person who does hip hop? ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

This really needs explanation, please.

+) I’ll add something. Anyways whether other singers used it or not, Zico has put it in his lyrics. I also lived in the US for not a short time. (explanation of the word faggot when OP was living in the US)

++) For the people who said “the clothes are the stylist’s fault†I never said that Zico should apologise for wearing the clothes. If Zico really didn’t know, then “Ah it’s the stylist’s fault, I didn’t know.†as an explanation from him should be enough.

+++) (more explanation about faggot because some people were arguing about it)

++++) (OP frustrated at the people commenting that they live in the US)

++++++) (explanation about OP being wrong about the info on the flag, it’s not rare that people say that the flag is actually symbol of the south and not the actual confederate flag but OP thinks that it’s still not okay to use the flag)

+++++++) Apparently the flag was used as a symbol for the KKK. Don’t need other words then. Please give a fast feedback about the clothes.

(T/N: GUYS, I'm really not sure about the historical backgrounds and everything so please feel free to correct me if the terms I've used are wrong. And as I learnt history in english I don't particularly know all the history terms in Korean so I searched it as well. Sorry I didn't translate the ones in brackets because most of it is the OP ranting, please also remember that this isn't an official article/news.)

Even though I did try to contact seven seasons I had zero hope that I'd actually manage to reach them. So seeing some people discussing it gives me a tiny (like it's minuscule) hope that maybe it'll reach someone...

Well lets just wait for an update. I honestly didn't know about this until someone messaged me to translate it... so maybe it just needs a little more time and exposure.

Thanks for translating, I was curious about this.

You're welcome. Thanks for reading~

I hope this will reach Seven Seasons. Zico needs to apologize for using that word.

Zico, I like you but can you stop being such a troublemaker, Block B doesn't need any more scandals.

Even if it does... will he ever stop?

It has reached 7S before when he used the N word, he apologized and said that he was going to be careful with words, then changed the word to baby in like one performance then changed it back to the N word???

He knew already what it meant and why he shouldn't use it by that time and he's still did...

I think he's hopeless by now tbh;;;;

that apologize wasn't for the N word though. It was for him imitating a black person in one of the 5MBC episodes.

I think the reason he changed the N world then was because he performed it at a concert and not underground.

I really don't know why he keep using these hurtful words  :._.:

I still have hopes that he is going to be more careful in the future.

- confederate flag.

- use of homophobic slur.

- treating women like random twerking body parts/banana suckers.

- wearing that horrendous gold tooth-guard.

He knows what these racial connotations and slurs mean because he's been called out before on his use of the N word in a song. So basically, even knowing all that, he still Went There? That makes him extra dumbass.

He wanted to be cool like other rappers.

R: why in 2013, use "faggot" on that song? Why use "gay-looking" as an insult?

Eminem:  I don't know how to say this without saying it how I've said it a million times. But that word, those kind of words, when I came up battle-rappin' or whatever, I never really equated those words . . . It was more like calling someone a bitch or a punk or asshole. So that word was just thrown around so freely back then. It goes back to that battle, back and forth in my head, of wanting to feel free to say what I want to say, and then [worrying about] what may or may not affect people. And, not saying it's wrong or it's right, but at this point in my career – man, I say so much shit that's tongue-in-cheek. I poke fun at other people, myself. But the real me sitting here right now talking to you has no issues with gay, straight, transgender, at all. I'm glad we live in a time where it's really starting to feel like people can live their lives and express themselves. And I don't know how else to say this, I still look at myself the same way that I did when I was battling and broke.

misogynistic theme and hyper-masculinity theme are predominantly found in commercial rap.

Nothing surprising about his MV.

Oh, I'm not surprised by anything in rap MVs anymore.

I just figured while we were on the subject of his MV to flag up the subject in general. Granted, his treatment of women in the MV is not as offensive as some stuff/lyrics out there. But as a female who likes hip hop/rap, it still rankles, I guess, that rappers only think of someone like me as... a piece of ass. Literally, a hole which they can hump away at.

It's the confederate flag and use of the "fa---" word which is really offensive here, though. I don't care how many MVs in this world showcase that mess. Zico should and does know better, but he chose to use them anyway. And I say this is somebody who loves Eminem, but that rationalization of why Em uses the word in his music (as posted above) always, always bothered me.

BBI's working on a letter and probably compiling fan reactions to translate and send to Seven Seasons

There's a Pann article that supposedly has even more harsh words for the MV from K-netz http://pann.nate.com/talk/324732669

The pann itself is okay, quite similar to the instiz one I've posted explaining the two things. As for the comments they're all saying "oh don't you know the american history" to each other and "zico's an idiot" kinda things and some even posted translations from comments on akp. But some shielded him by saying a lot of rappers use the curse word as well and him not knowing the flag etc etc.

The top 4 comments though (I'll just translate them roughly):

[+267, -59] Is he crazy? Why does he always causes all these controversies. I really can't understand if he's trying to get popular by saying offensive words or he just doesn't have a brain...? If in the US those words are really bad then why is he using them in his lyrics... so embarrassed

[+228, -73] Thai incident Japan incident we're so busy shielding you and now you're making another controversy even if its of a lower level

[+121, -33] Is block b's concept shaming Korea ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

[+88, -69] I was born in the US and grew up here too and we use that curse word often. (Continues to explain by comparing the word to shibal, saying that shibal has a bad meaning but we use it a lot anyways, same goes for faggot)

none of that excuses why he said it. if you wanna call someone a bitch then call them a bitch. zico said faggot bitch let's not pretend like he was trying to make a statement or something. and eminem has nothing to do with what's happening now. stop defending his wack ass

I'm worry about it. If he was a soloist, ok, it's his career, but he's Block B's leader.

I really have no problem with the MV or his lyrics since I've watch and listen to way worse. Of course that's just me (my opinion) since I don't really consider the F word that offensive. It means 'a male homosexual' and it's only offensive or bad because people thought so. But I still understand those who got hurt or mad.
