Henry Says His Musical Abilities Are Hard Work Over Talent And Gives Jaw-Dropping Performance - Soompi

On June 3, Henry appeared as a guest on MBC’s “Brother’s Thoughts†and talked about being called “a musical genius.â€

 

During the show, he talked about how he was playing piano, guitar, and violin almost perfectly by the age of 10. When asked what played the biggest role in his mastery of these instruments, he said, “I don’t think I was born with any special talents. It’s all hard work. I practiced every single day growing up, and I think anyone can master these instruments, too, if they practice enough. And I’m not saying this to be humble. I really believe this is the truth.â€

 

Along with this, Henry also addressed why he decided to debut as a singer when he was studying classical music. He said, “I loved to sing and dance. I wanted to be a singer who can also show people classical music.â€

 

Henry played the violin for the cast of “Brother’s Thoughts,†and even improvised a song on the spot. ...

Along with NCT 127, Super Junior’s Henry appeared on SBS Power FM’s “Two O’Clock Escape Cultwo Show†on June 22 and was asked the burning question of why he likes to video call people in the bathroom.

Henry said, “I like to FaceTime with Amber, and all my other friends as well. As for why I do it, why not? It makes the conversation more interesting.â€

 

Things then led to a story FTISLAND’s Lee Hong Ki shared once, in which he revealed that Henry likes to FaceTime while doing his business in the bathroom. Henry explained himself by saying, “Don’t you get bored when you’re in the bathroom? I do it because I’m bored, just like how some people take selfies in the same situation.â€

Singer and variety star Henry recently participated in an interview where he revealed a different side of himself than the typical bright and funny image that he showcases on variety shows.

 

Henry recently released the solo track “I’m Good†on June 23. The song was intended as a follow-up to previous releases such as “Girlfriend,†which was about missing a girlfriend he’d dated for seven years ago, and “Real Love,†which was about trying to forget an ex.

 

“The song ‘I’m Good’ is about living your life the way it comes,†he said. “To eat the food you like, for example. I think people will be able to see a different side of me through this song. The music genre is not the style that I typically use.â€

 

He added, “The song has a story. I haven’t dated a girl in a long time. Once it almost worked out with a girl, but I got hurt. That day, I wrote it with the mindset of, ‘I’m fine without you. Now that you’re gone, I’m just going to live life as it comes.'â€

 

When asked about his ex-girlfriend, he said, “I dated one girl for seven years and for nine years I had no girlfriend at all. I’ve said this on a show before, but I once saw comments wondering if I was gay. I go out a lot and occasionally have “some†relationships but it seems like people still misunderstand. I wanted to clear that up here.â€

 

He also talked about the inspiration behind “Girlfriend.†“She was a Korean living abroad that I met in Canada,†he said. “But I was better at Korean than her. After we broke up, she wouldn’t meet with me at all. All of a sudden, it was like we couldn’t even be friends. But then she said she was getting married. I wrote ‘Girlfriend’ then.â€

 

He added, “Rather than being shocked, I understood. I finally realized why she didn’t contact me for all those years. I think I still can’t forget her because I haven’t met any other girls since. I still dream about her about once a month. I don’t really think about her anymore, but she still comes out in dreams. Once I went to an expert to get help but I couldn’t speak Korean well enough so I gave up.â€

 

When asked if he ever regretted coming to Korea, he said, “I graduated high school three months early so I could come to Korea quickly and train. I really regret that. In Canada and the United States, high school graduates go to a party called ‘prom.’ Girls and guys usually go to proms together, and if I went with my girlfriend, we would have been prom king and queen. I had confidence that would happen. Everyone knew we were dating at school. But I was in Korea and I couldn’t go. My girlfriend at the time was lonely and asked if she could go with someone else, and although I wasn’t okay with it I said it was fine. But the guy she’s marrying now is the guy she met at prom. I definitely don’t think my ex-girlfriend acted badly. It was just an unfortunate situation.â€

 

He also revealed that one of his current sources of regret is not being able to see his family as often. “Not long ago my sister came to Korea for three days but I was working. I only met her briefly. At times like that I feel really sorry to my family.â€

Henry showed his thoughtful side by sharing his initial struggles as a singer to console a hardworking yet unconfident fan.

 

In a recent episode of Dingo Studios’ “Well Done Again Today,†Henry visited an unsuspecting fan who majors in metal crafts.

Henry’s fan, Eunsol, who had a hard day working on her school project, burst into tears when Henry surprised her. Henry, flustered by Eunsol’s tears, hurriedly grabbed some tissues for her.

 

 

The two sat side by side as Henry asked Eunsol about the hardships that she is facing. Eunsol shed tears as she confessed that she feels as though she is not as talented as her peers.

Henry assured her that her thoughts are not true, and consoled her by sharing his own story of perseverance. He said, “I started violin when I was six. I was slower than everyone else at the time. So I practiced for five hours every single day. And I started to get better from then on.â€

 

He went on to advise Eunsol, “I think that nobody is talented. Your abilities depend on how much time you put into it.â€

Then, Henry shared a heartfelt story of his own. At first, he was hesitant to open up about the story behind his debut. But when Eunsol encouraged him, he began, “I joined [super Junior M] and all of the fans hated me.â€

 

“We held a concert, and the fans suddenly turned off their light sticks when I got on stage. But I’m okay. Because of that, I worked even harder,†Henry revealed. He then went on to say, “I had to do my very best, or else everyone would hate me even more. That’s why I started to learn composing. I’m thankful for the fans at the time now.â€

Upon hearing Henry’s hardships, Eunsol said, “You once said, ‘There are no geniuses, it’s all effort,’ in a show before. That’s the reason I started to work hard.â€

 

To express his gratitude, Henry gave Eunsol a big hug and pats her on the back.
