My very first Anime was Akira. It really opened my eyes that animation could incorporate serious adult themes and be as powerful as a hollywood film.

Some others:

Guyver - loved the original series and always wanted an extra dimensional piece of living armour to call for in time of need.

Fist of the North Star - A man who can bring down a skyscraper by simply holding out his arm and walking in a straight line is an awesome man indeed.

Urotsukidoji - Sex education for demons

And many, many more...

Sailor Moon~! It use to show on Cartoon Network when I was little and I absolutely fell in love with it! I know this doesn't really count as anime, but I guess the first Japanese Animated thing I ever saw was Kiki'sdelivery Service and I use to watch it all the time when I was 2/3 years old. Since then I have had a huge love towards Japanese Animation and this might sound strange, but a lot of the messages in the Anime that I have watched have all impacted my life greatly.

As a Kid : Sailormoon and Pokemon  (But i referred to them as cartoons, couldn't tell the difference honestly)

Rediscovered anime when I was flipping through AXN, and they had an anime segment from 6-8pm , had nothing else to watch so decided to sit through the anime segment: So basically Samurai X , Rave , Saiyuki and Ranma 1/2 reintroduced me to anime.

Watched Dragon ball Z & Captain Tsubasa as a kid, then reading Shaman King & Chobits made me realize mangas/animes would have enough diversity to keep me hooked for a long time.

oww when you said u only liked a limited number of anime I thought it was cuz you were really "demanding" or had weird tastes. Judging by your list of favorite, I would say you can potentially love A LOT of animes  :la:

Watching Sailor moon, DBZ, Yugioh, Inuyasha, Pokemon when I was kid led to me trying to find them on the internet when I got my first computer. I discovered that they weren't cartoons but "anime", and with that discovery came finding all sorts of other anime online.

Back in the 90s been watching Sailor Moon, then not even realising that the genre was called an anime lol. Had ages of pause and picked it again this year, dang there's so much to catch up on lol.
