in case you don't wanna read any more about this until we get offical statements, i'm gonna put it in a spoiler

 

I'm just irked by how quick people are to take that aricle as objective and providing cold hard evidence. The person who wrote it obviously had own interests, and could pick and choose what information to put in or leave out. It's not like they did research, drew a conclusion and published it, but they had a suspicion and then went out to find stuff backing their stand up. There's a subtle but significant difference. Idk, have people ever heard of critical reading? 

The first thing that strikes me as wierd is that they apparantly didn't use the normal way of cancelled bulk buys to manipulate, but this weird bar code thing. This is not a case of "i don't understand it so it can't be real", i'm just wondering why WM would make the effort to find another way of manipulation if it's gonna look just as bad in the charts anyway?

They didn't go out of their way to find receipts for the sales, the sales that are accounted for are just whatever little they couldn't ignore and banas could dig up before it was published. Looking into how much of the sales are actually real wasn't done with the intention of giving B1A4 a fair chance- it was done to be able to say "well, we gave them a chance to prove us wrong but this is all they came up with". It's not unlikely something is off, but the numbers aren't unbiased either.

Only 81,25% of the sales are accounted for, yet for the first week of WGO they sold ~30% of WAI's sales. Are they seriously claiming their sales has decreased by a third?   It feels like there's something off with these numbers too, so even if WM has been manipulating i don't believe it will be this big.

Yeah, i'm still happy the majority of the comments are feeling bad for them and saying they wouldn't need this, and even if it'll be a stain on their image it won't ruin them... i'm just so sick of people taking everything as 100% fact and proof, all we have right now is quite well backed up accusations, and tho it's not looking all that good it hasn't been proved yet either. I'm gonna stand at there being a 50/50 chance of this going either way until further notice. Kpop might be a shady market sometimes, but people are acting like anyone callng out a company is an unbiased saint preaching nothing but the truth for the sake of the truth. 

Oh well, i also think this is blown out of proportion by fans, especially i-fans, and it's more of a fan issue than people make it out to be. i mean, other SM artists are congratulating and cheering for them, so there doesn't seem to be some huge feud between WM and SM rn?

 We might just have another nickname to add to the list of paper-dols, blood-dols, country-dols... sajaegi-dols how does that sound?   

 

 

 

That's what irritates me too, everyone takes everything they see as fact. It's so easy collect evidence that proves your point, and leave out everything that proves the other side's point. The same thing hapenned with that T-ara scandal, all the evidence to prove the "bullying" was disproven by a fan, and they showed that everything was taken out of context. So wen people just blindly believe everything because they're presented with "facts" and "proof"...........sigh

Shim Eun Kyung and B1A4’s Jing Young will be keeping their promise by holding a free hug event.

 

Shim Eun Kyung and Jin Young will each be dressing up as a ‘grandma’ and ‘grandpa’ to give out free hugs to fans on February 13 at Time Square mall in Youngdeungpo. The first 200 lucky fans will be hugged by the two stars that day.

 

Celebrating Valentine’s Day, they will also be giving out chocolate and coffee to fans, along with a stage greeting.

 

 

Shim Eun Kyung had made a promise during the movie’s press conference on January 6, that “If we sell over 5 million tickets, I will dress up as a grandma and give out free hugs. I will do it with Jin Young, who will dress up as a grandpa.â€

B1A4 says no to school violence in comeback Seoul performance

 

Under the theme of high school friends, the members of B1A4 ― Jinyoung, CNU, Sandeul, Baro and Gongchan ― trotted out onto the SK Olympic Stadium stage decked out in mock high school uniforms. They ignited the sea of young, screaming teenage fans excited for the boys’ comeback with the opening performance of their new single “Who Am I?â€

 

Returning with its second studio album “Who Am I†on Jan. 13, almost two years after the release of the group’s debut studio album, the members of B1A4 greeted some 5,000 fans with two live performances in Seoul as part of its “The Class†comeback concert event on Sunday.

 

 

With sweat pouring down their young faces, the energetic K-pop idols delivered a spirited two-hour concert of more than 20 songs, unveiling a number of songs from their newly released album including “Lonely,†“Oh My God,†“Seoul†and “Amazing.â€

 

The backstory of the concert was set in a high school, as the members of B1A4 were on a crusade to further public awareness of school violence and bullying.

 

“We think that school violence continues to be a serious problem and we wanted to put on a performance that has a special message,†said CNU during the show. He went on to express his hope that no one in the B1A4 fan club participates in any sort of school-related bullying, and stuck out his pinky finger and asked them to make a promise to abstain from such behavior.

 

During the concert, the boys of B1A4 not only relied on their song and dance numbers to entertain the audience, but also filmed and showed their own comedic 11-minute high school skit, which they unveiled in two parts in hopes of further touching on the group’s anti-bullying message as well as showing off the members’ acting skills.

B1A4 will soon bring “The Class†to Busan for the group’s first solo concert in the city on March 1.

Boys of B1A4 agreed that they are not mere colleagues, but true friends.

On February 16, the popular male group held their concert titled “The Class†at Olympic Park SK Olympic Handball Stadium.

 

 

As the members were introducing their upcoming mini drama, they said, “There is a line [in the drama] that says ‘If it is not us five together, we cannot do anything.’ I think it is true,†and continued to describe their warm friendship, “Even if we make mistakes, we believe in each other.â€

 

“You are the people that made our dream come true,†the members expressed their gratitude towards their supporting fans. “We are very thankful that we can spend this day together with our loving fans. Thank you so much,†they continued, and the atmosphere quickly turned warm and caring.

 

To emphasize the school theme of “The Class,†B1A4 had prepared a high school-themed mini drama for their fans. In the video revealed during the concert, the members played students with a dream of becoming singers. While preparing for a concert, the five boys’ friendship got stronger as they experienced hardships and faced misunderstandings. The mini drama was a delightful surprise for all fans hoping to see more of B1A4′s acting skills.

In related news, the male group will kick off their “Countryside Tour†next month with a stop in Busan on March 1.

‘God’s Gift’ Reveals First Still Cuts of B1A4’s Baro

 

The first cuts of B1A4’s Baro have been revealed for SBS’ God’s Gift – 14 Days.

The photos were released on February 17, as Baro acted as Young Gyu, a man who has the mentality of a six year old. In the stills, Baro waited out in the cold, wearing slippers and socks wit holes in them.

 

 

God’s Gift – 14 Days is a time-slip drama about a mother who goes back in time to save her daughter from being kidnapped and murdered. Lee Bo Young was cast as the mother, while Kim Yoo Bin was cast as the daughter Saetbyul.

Baro will play Young Gyu, who tries his best to save his only friend, Saetbyul from the murderer.

On his character, Baro said, “Young Gyu is a very naïve person, who is mentally stuck at age six.â€

“As much as I waited for this, the filming is so fun. This will be my second drama, so I hope everyone will give lots of support and love.â€

 

The drama will begin on March 3.

Q. What do you think is the reason only both of you are doing the shoot today?

Jinyoung: I think it’s because both of us are the hyungs in B1A4.

CNU: I think so too. They probably came up with this combination of the eldest hyungs…

Q. How was it?

CNU: I think it’s nice. The fans like the combination of the two of us. It’s the first time we’re shooting alone so it’s interesting and a different experience.

Jinyoung: The concept in itself is interesting.

Q. After ‘sprout-dol’ and ‘countryside-dol’, they are now calling you ‘trend-dol’ and ‘boyfriend-dol’.

Jinyoung: I feel like all of these changes with time. In the beginning we had a fresh green image hence the nickname ‘sprout-dol’. I like that as time passed, people felt us to be like ‘boyfriend-dol’.

CNU: But of course, it does become a burden. The word ‘trend’ has huge meaning to it. To be honest there is the sense of responsibility and burden to have to live up to that name.

CNU: We have heard the nickname ‘trend-dol’, but I don’t think of it often. It may turn into narcissism so I try not to think of it on purpose.

Jinyoung: Instead of calling us the trend for real, I think people just look at us cutely (laugh).

Q. The new album in general does not have an idol-like feeling.

CNU: It is a pity that from some point in time there is a prejudice towards idols. We debuted with the title of a singer, and in our own ways we are promoting with the mindset of musicians. But then there is the viewpoint by which we are evaluated with the standards of idols. It’s a pity but at the same time a stance that we have to take in stride. I think it’s a problem for us to solve in time to come. We will show everyone the artiste side to us.

Q. Are songs such as the title song Lonely, Baby or Pretty made from your own love stories?

Jinyoung: Haha (laugh). It is made up with our own experiences and the stories that we hear. There are also many love stories that I indirectly experience by watching movies. The lyrics of Baby Goodnight is a good example. It is the story of a guy who greets his girlfriend good night on the phone and heads out to the club after. That is not my own experience. Because there are things that I hear and see around me (laugh). It is a very possible thing.

CNU: I think I get a lot of inspiration from the things I have experienced personally. Honestly it’s not like I have experienced a lot and it’s also been some time since they happened, but I tend to recall them for when I write songs and compose lyrics. The song Seoul this time is also a song filled with my emotions. It’s a story about the fans.

Q. There are many self-composed songs in this album too.

Jinyoung: They are not my solo songs so I accept the opinions of the other members too. We tend to have a meeting together to decide on the direction of a song, or the concept of the album. It may not turn out well if there is too much of only my thoughts. I am very cautious about that. To be honest there have been occasions where I push ahead with my own thoughts. Of course there are pros when I do so, but there are definitely also cons.

CNU: That’s right. No matter what, it is necessary to get the opinions of the members from the start so as to have it in the proper direction.

Q. Is there a possibility that both of you will promote as a duet unit group?

CNU: Oh~ That’ll be nice. It’ll be interesting. Eldest hyung-line? The genre of music that we like is quite similar. Both of us like R&B hiphop. I think we will be able to show everyone a different side to us if we promoted as a unit by combining the genres that we like.

Jinyoung: It’s not an entirely impossible thing.

CNU: I have ever mentioned on a Japanese program that it will be interesting to come up with an album as a duet. There are several possible combinations in our group. It’s possible that the both of us do it, or I do it with someone else. I think it’ll be interesting for us to come up with a collaboration album by forming different combinations amongst the members.

Q. How is communication with your entertainment agency?

Jinyoung: They take into consideration a lot of our opinions, because we tend to give a lot of them… I think we communicate well with each other.

Q. What’s the possibility of being an ‘acting-dol’?

Jinyoung: Possible. I see all five of us as having the ability to act. We all have very different charms so I look forward to see which field of acting will we go in.

Q. ‘Suspicious Granny’ has surpassed the 5 million mark. Did you expect it to do this well?

CNU: I knew it would do well. I knew after hearing who was cast, and I knew after hearing a little of the content from Jinyoung. It was refreshing and interesting. The director is also an amazing person.

Jinyoung: (in a tiny voice) I knew it would do well too (laugh).

Q. What genre or role would you like to try next?

Jinyoung: Romance! I want to try expressing a proper and strong love story.

CNU: I have ever said this before… The role of a father.

Q. This early?

CNU: I don’t know. We had an indirect experience of raising a kid through our reality program ‘Hello Baby’ two years back. Doing that program made me think a lot about the existence of a father.

Q. Are you ‘lonely’ recently?

Jinyoung, CNU: Lonely… (laugh).

CNU: It’s lonely.

Q. You’re 24 years old, you should be dating.

CNU: Dating? I’m not in a relationship right now. I have no choice. I’m not dating anyone now so I have to say I’m not.

Q. What kind of person do you want to date?

Jinyoung: I have a very detailed ideal type. In the past I was going up the stairs at the subway, and I saw a lady help a grandmother carry her bags. At that time I thought that that was something everyone should be going. But right now it looks very charming. That lady had short hair. Ever since then I have liked girls with short hair. My ideal type is an elegant lady with short hair.

CNU: This kind of question is really tough. Even though I have always answered this question with “a lady like my motherâ€â€¦

Q. That’s very abstract, I’m not seeing your point.

CNU: I like a girl who is strong like my mother. But she cannot have a wild personality. She cannot swing me around violently just because she’s strong - she has to embrace me warmly. On the other hand, I like a tenderhearted girl who makes me want to hug her. A lady who is strong but soft instead, so that I can lean on her and hug her as well.

Q. You’re having concerts in March and April right?

CNU: We have spent time since last year thinking that spring means concerts. Next week is the Seoul show, March Busan and April Japan. I really like concerts. A concert in itself is very meaningful, but the more I do them the more interesting it gets. That entire space only has us and our fans. They are people who come because they like us. So I just really like it and I am so happy. Since it’s the first concert we’re holding after releasing our second full length album, it will be done mainly around the new songs. You will be curious as to how we will perform the new songs live since we have never performed them on stage apart from the title song. It’ll be good if you looked forward to our first live performance. We also tend to add musical elements in the middle, and this time we are doing so with a live band. It’ll be good to anticipate it.

Q. I heard you only slept a couple of hours today, trying to prepare for the concert?

Jinyoung: Yes. When we get less busy, I want to go to the movie theatres and watch 3 movies in a day. Not only do I like watching movies, I only like to eat popcorn.

CNU: What shall I do… A thoughtless drive?

Q. While sharing coffee with someone next to you?

Jinyoung: That is a leading question (laugh).

CNU: It’ll only be alright if there’s someone next to me right? I’ll probably get a girlfriend in future.

Q. I heard there’s some things that you haven’t gotten to say to each other?

CNU: There’s a lot…

Jinyoung: I have always thought that I should carry the burdens because I am the leader. But because CNU has helped me so much that I have come this far comfortably. Recently I think we have not been able to talk to each other frankly, so we have decided to have a serious talk together. (While looking at CNU) Let’s open the package of talks soon (laugh). Both of us tend to talk about the past, because we have a similar bond of sympathy.

CNU: Me too. We’ve spent a lot of time together… I think it’s been about 5 years that we spent together. It’s long, but it is also short.

Jinyoung: That’s right. That’s like a quarter of my life? A fifth?

CNU: Even though we think that we know a lot about each other… If you think about it there are many things that we might not know. As he said, we have to talk more so as to get to know each other better. Even if we have a lot of honest conversations with each other now. There is so much to talk about everyday. There are many things we want to tell each other while promoting too. And Jinyoung is really busy as the album producer. He was busy with having to produce the album and film for the movie at the same time. It is really cool to see how he splits his busy time as so to work hard and not lose both acting and music. [interview] B1A4: What’s going on in L.A.?

A few hours before the start of The Korea Times’ Music Festival on May 3, a voice singing Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are†rings off the walls of the empty staircase outside the singers’ dressing rooms inside the Hollywood Bowl.

Baro and San-deul, two members of B1A4, appear at the top of the stairs. The voice belongs to the latter, who is the main vocalist of the group.

“And when you smile — and when you smile — smile — smile — †His falsetto stops when he spots me staring.

B1A4, which debuted in 2011, celebrated their third anniversary just last month. This — the Hollywood Bowl — is their first time ever visiting and performing in the U.S.

 

From sold-out solo concerts in Korea, Baro and Jin-young’s acting stints on “Reply 1994†and “She is Wow†to San-deul’s regular presence on “Immortal Songs 2,†the team has seen a rise — “fly,†as their motto would say — in the K-pop scene in the past year.

It’s also hard to ignore the excitement of their fans at Los Angeles International Airport just two days prior and harder still to forget that, as archaic a form of popularity measurement as it may be, B1A4’s official fan cafe ranks No. 6 — that’s a member count of more than 166,000 people — among boy bands in Korea, behind Infinite, Big Bang and Beast but above Super Junior, 2PM and Block B.

It’s a short walk to the band’s dressing room near the end of the hallway.

“L.A. is fun, isn’t it?†I say to San-deul, who has fallen into step next to me.

“So fun,†he says, cheery. “I didn’t think I would speak English this well here. I feel like I can communicate. How can I be communicating so well?â€

B1A4’s dressing room is a small space crammed with a black leather couch, a coffee table, a few chairs and too many people.

I squeeze by Gong-chan and  Jin-young as they gesture to a sloping space at the end of the couch.

CNU, who is in the midst of having his hair and makeup done, shifts to turn himself sideways. He’s not wearing his trademark glasses.

The five members — Jin-young, CNU, San-deul, Baro and Gong-chan — are known as many things by Korean fans, the most famous of them as countryside idols (because none of them hail from Seoul) and as paper idols because “B1†and “A4†are, literally, paper sizes.

“It’s so fascinating, how full of confidence I am in English,†San-deul continues.

“Say something in English,†I offer.

His pause is as short as his actual English response: “Sorry.â€

“I’m so very sorry,†Jin-young apologizes.

Baro says he likes L.A. for its sunny sky.

“The sky,†he says. “It’s so high here. It feels open.â€

He’s referring to the Seoul skyscape, which contrasts with L.A. in the same way looking up at the sky in Manhattan may bring in views of mostly high-rise buildings, windows and more buildings. The L.A. skyline is — well, the sky. It’s blue most days, as smog-plagued as it may look miles away, and trees and clouds dominate what is upward.

Jin-young, strawberry platinum hair sticking out beneath his black cap, is the leader of the group, but he’s also one of the few idols in the K-pop industry — two more who pop into mind are probably G-Dragon and Beast’s Yong Jun-hyung — who composes and writes his own music.

Jin-young’s self-produced tracks include most of the band’s title songs, among them “Baby I’m Sorry,†“Baby Good Night,†“Tried to Walk,†“What’s Going On?†and “Lonely.â€

“I listen to a lot of music,†he says. “From both American and Korean artists. I originally liked the electronic genre a lot, but lately it’s been slower genres. I’ve been trying my best to listen to a variety of things.â€

In 2013, his self-composed track, “What’s Going On?â€, won the band their very first No. 1 win on a music program.

Now, when asked what he wants to see B1A4 doing in the future, he’s got a big goal.

“I’ve wanted to do this since a long time ago,†he says. “I want to do a world tour and connect with fans all over the world and perform for them.â€

B1A4 have spent their two days in town so far filming with a TV crew straight from LAX and trekking around downtown, where one fan snapped a photo of members of the band holding plastic shopping bags from clearance-rack shop Ross.

The real question is: What do they really want to do while here in the U.S.?

“Mine’s simple,†Jin-young says. “I want to walk into a coffee shop here and order an Americano. Then I want to sit back and look at the atmosphere outside. I really want to try that,†he says.

Gong-chan, the group’s youngest member, has a similarly simple wish.

“I wanted to ride a bicycle on the beach, and we got to do that at Venice Beach,†he says. “It felt really good. Next time, I want to go swimming at the beach. I saw other people there and it looked so enjoyable.â€

CNU stretches as he thinks.

“I want to go on a drive. I’ve always enjoyed driving around, and I want to feel L.A.’s nice weather,†he says.

Baro has a different idea.

“I want to enjoy a festival,†Baro says. “I want to personally go to a festival on the beach where they invite foreign artists to come and perform.â€

And San-deul, too, wants to stay on the coast.

“I want to try surfing,†he says. “I’ve never done it before. I want to enjoy that feeling and atmosphere.â€

But for now, they’re here for one thing — to perform for the audience and to stand on an American stage for the first time — and they say they’re thrilled.

“We’ve come to the U.S. for the first time since debut and we really wanted to meet everyone. We’re so excited,†Jin-young says. “Soon, we’ll be able to meet our fans on stage. That’s why we’re planning on making a lot of eye contact with our fans and enjoying ourselves without regrets. We’re not meeting them for the first time in a while — it’s the first time ever. We want to make a lot of good memories with them. We really wanted to see them.â€

 

 

When the time comes for the band to go on stage, it’s a whirlwind of fan service within a storm of exhilarated fangirl screams.

Donned in black suits and wearing yellow ribbons — symbols of hope and unity in the wake of Sewol — B1A4 performs “What’s Going On?â€, “Baby Good Night†and “Lonely.â€

Many, many selfies with fans are taken. A couple of the members take bunny ears from the crowd. Jin-young accepts a giant drawing of himself from a fan.

The response by BANAs, the official name for the group’s fans, is explosive on Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram.

“I will never forget the precious moments I spent with B1A4,†one fan says on a fan account on her Tumblr. “And will be looking forward to their solo showcase or concert in the U.S.â€
