'Birth of a Beauty' have shed a light on the differences of responses to woman according to their looks which is the truth in this generation.

[+6224, -76] This time while watching the drama I really felt the reality. Since when did the world became a place where being fat is considered as a crime.

[+4665, -67] Fits really well with the real world

[+4576, -59] The negative consequences of putting looks first (T/N: something like a "world where only people with good looks can succeed")

[+3229, -100] This is the first time I've cried watching a drama

[+2687, -64] Fun!!!!!!!

[+664, -8] That ahjumma probably gets hurt when she's acting..

[+589, -28] As expected, a girl indeed has to be skinny and pretty Edited by King of Spades

It's harsh, though right to make fat people feel like they need to change.

There's a difference between being disapproving of an unhealthy lifestyle and denying someone respect because they are chubs. (keyword: respect; it's not a crime to have a preference in terms of attraction if you can respect people who don't fall into that category)

I have a dear cousin who's a toothpick but he's dealing with a high risk for heart disease at 24 because he treats his body like shit. He looks completely "normal" on the outside so no one bats an eye.

What's sad is that being a healthy weight is often considered "chubby" there too  :._.:

Oh I know that at my healthy weight I would still be called chubby because of my body type. I am short and I have a thick waist, even at 120lbs with toothpick arms I still wore a size 8. And I have wide hips and a butt.

Historically Koreans were not all model thin with a three inch thigh gap and v line face, it's a sad truth that many people have to go to unhealthy lengths to achieve that look. There is actually quite a range of healthy weights for your age and height, usually give or take 30 pounds to make up for body type. For my height of 5'2" the healthy weight range is between 101 and 136, people who are conditioned to think that thinner is always better would say I was fat at 130 when in fact I would still be fine. Even right now at 30 pounds overweight I am still healthier than my sister who is stick thin because she doesn't take care of herself.

The fat woman need to lose weight to make success, is this the moral of the story? hypocrites.

Not only that but I just read the synopsis and apparently in the drama she had to have some work done as well  :soul:

Why don't they just cast some normal weight people, who are by today's standards also considered 'fat'. Wouldn't it be better to teach young girls to love their bodies even if they're not skeletons? I feel more people could relate to that.

I get what this drama is trying to imply though.

As someone who is more than a little overweight and who seriously needs to lose weight, there's a right and wrong way to make "fat people feel like they need to change". The right way is kindly encouraging them and maintaining respect and dignity. The wrong way is what this seems to be doing, to judge and be harsh. We're still people, too :\

I just watched it while ago and I’d like to find that plastic surgeon who can turn Ha Jae Sook into Han Ye Seul. Surely it would not have been that hard to put her in a fat suit etc? the use of a ‘fat lady’ just make this even worse.
