In 2009, Korean actress Jang Ja Yeon committed suicide by hanging herself, left a suicide note that accused her agency manager forced her to provide sexual services for almost one hundred times, even unable to avoid the coercion during her parent’s memorial service day, also having been forced to play 5P(engage in sexual activities with 4-5 men simultaneously), and that she will get beaten if she didn’t follow orders.

Early this year, due to insufficient evidence,  the courts gave the alleged agency manager a verdict of ‘not guilty’, which triggered public outrage. However, recently, a new verdict was given, the judge found that the deceased was coerced to be a social escort/hostess, the agency manager has to make a compensation of  24 million won (approximately 140,000 yuan).

Using death to file complaint of being forced to ‘accompany sleep’

(i.e. provide sexual services)

According to Korean media ‘Asia Finance’, Jang Ja Yeon hanged herself five years ago to plead innocence, and ended her life (in her attempt) to file complaint that her agency manager has forced her to provide sexual services. Initially, the courts considered that the deceased actress was the only witness, and there was a lack of evidence, hence was unable to convict the agency’s management.   However, after repeated appeals , the High Court has recently overturned the prior conviction, and found that the deceased was forced to ‘accompany sleep’ (provide sexual services). The 45 years old agency president was found to be guilty and has to compensate the deceased family 24 million won (approximately 140,000 yuan).

Suicide note content rocked the Korean entertainment industry.

The late Korean actress Jang Ja Yeon acted in Korean drama ‘Boys Over Flowers’  and became famous. In her suicide note, she painfully expressed: “Whenever I wear new clothes, it meant time to sleep with (provide sexual services to) a new man, a nightmare of an inescapable lifetime doomed to providing sexual servicesâ€. She also revealed that during the duration of 2005 to 2009, she was forced by agency to provide sexual services to big corporations, media executives, Korean entertainment industry insiders and 31 men, including ‘sexual tributes’ for up to a hundred times.  The suicide note content rocked the entire Korean entertainment industry.

Comments:

[+1378] China actresses, as long as money is paid, don’t care how many people, don’t care if they are humans!

[+1052] Looks like Korea is also a country where the weak cannot be protected! A country seriously plagued with corruption, where the people is viewed as worthless, in my country (China), families of traffic accidents are compensated with at least several hundred thousand dollars, over there in Korea an actress who was pressured to commit suicide only gets compensation of 140,000 yuan? This is desecration and disrespect to the sanctity of life! Korea indeed should be a country to be despised!

[+642] Rest in peace, perhaps this is your Hobson’s choice, and it can be considered a relief, hope your presence in heaven, will cause those who harmed you, be dragged to hell.

[+456] Director says: Dedication to the arts, (will get one) infinite fame. Leader says: Devotion to career, (will get one) quick promotion. Professor from Xiamen University says: Unwillingness to dedicate oneself, (one will) remain ordinary. Boss says: As long as one dedicates, birdcage will follow.

[+119] Meanwhile women in China are begging to sleep with men. What a joke.

[+68] Woman martyr! Whoever is not a rogue in the entertainment industry, please stand up and let us look at you.

A mere 140, 000 yuan...Money and power determine one’s humaneness.

Staying alive means hope exists, why commit suicide?

140,000 yuan one hundred times, average is 140 yuan, compared to city’s third rate hair salon, even cheaper...

Finally innocence is proven!

I agree. That measly negligible amount of compensation to her family is laughable. Is this really how K-courts work? It's about time for some relevant authorites to take a closer look and effect some changes. Never too late to make things right.

Poor JJY and victims like her..........

:ahmagah: It's gawkawful for JJY or anyone to have to undergo. Geez.
