How is the life of the backup dancers?

I guess it depends on who you ask. I've seen some back up dancers STAY on their grind and appear in multiple performances during the same promotional cycle so I'm sure their job isn't any easier than any given idol but I'm sure some enjoy a much less demanding lifestyle as far as the entertainment industry goes.

quite a lot of back-up dancers were trainees who failed to debut.

they had probably put in as many years, blood, sweat & tears as the idols, only to fail to make the final cut. back up dancers don't get paid that much either, so i can't imagine it to be that glamorous of a life. but it's a job nonetheless and they still get to perform on stage (doing what they love) - minus the disadvantages of the idol life (the pressure and sasaeng fans etc)

I remember that dance teacher in Baby Kara appeared as a back-up dancer in some other artist's performance..?

So yeah, they're most likely pro dancers/dance teachers getting paid to do those jobs :)

Edit: ...oh.. :( now that you mention the failed-trainees... that's too bad :(

pro dancers/teachers generally become choreographers / dance coaches (at the entertainment agencies etc).

they don't really do general back-up dancing on a day-to-day basis.

Some of them are professional teams like PLAY who have several members, including choreographers. They've worked with Secret, BAP, Girls Day etc. That's why you'll see a lot of the same dancers over and over (I'm sure there are other teams like that too). They seem to have some full time members that perform regularly and choreograph and some part time ones that come and go. I'm sure some of those "part time" ones are trying to be trainees, but I don't think the others are. I assume they mostly make money from choreographing and then added pay for each appearance.

I do know a friend's sister who thought about trying out to be a dancer instead of idol because it seemed more fun and less stressful.

I guess their doing okay and living. Meeting artists and celebrities when they can.. Probably having fun too if dancing is their passion

For ex:

Sh*t Kingz they worked with some people .. Like Bigbang's gara gara go was coreographed by them with Brian  and EXO's history was choreographed by them .

If you don't know them

Some of them are trainees, but most of them are professional dancers who only show up for practices and performances, so their life is a lot less hectic than an idol's.

I knw G.NA used to be Hyuna's back up dancer during Change

And in G.NA's new song, Pretty Lingerie, there is a Cube trainee about to debut soon in there, who is her backup dancer

Hyuna had an audition for backup dancers which A LOT of people tried out for (like over thousands) but only one made it.

Lay was also a backup dancer for SHINee before debut.

Companies sometimes add one back up dancer that is confirmed for debut in a group. That's tone of the ways they show off their trainees can perform before their debut.

But usually it's professional dancers.
