It was good yet disturbing at the same time  :rlytearpls:  A total eye opener. The movie I watched is called "Silence"

It is based on actual events that took place at Gwangju Inhwa School for the hearing-impaired, where young deaf students were the victims of repeated sexual assaults by faculty members over a period of five years in the early 2000s. (Copy & pasted from wiki)

silenced-the-crucible-korean-film-movie.

I teared up a few times and was absolutely disgusted with the punishment and the description of the assault (not to mention the flashbacks of the girls and boy being sexually harassed) I literally felt my heart clench whenever minsu got beaten by the teacher and then...

Does anyone know the ending to this case? I've read somewhere that the punishment has been changed to 12 years but idk if thats true or not??

gong yoo and jung yumi were great leads

kinda wished the movie sparked a massive public uproar so that those poor children got their justice..

It actually did cause enough of a public outcry that officials said they would look into it again, as the initial punishment meted out to those involved (if there WAS any punishment) was pathetic. I have no idea if that was said to try to pacify people and nothing ever came from it, or if people did follow through, though.

Edit:

From further down in the wiki about the school:

Two months after the film's release and the resulting controversy, Gwangju City officially shut down the school in November 2011.[7][8]

Several of the teachers pleaded guilty to sexual molestation charges, including the 63-year-old former administrator, who in July 2012 was sentenced by the Gwangju District Court to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting an 18-year-old student in April 2005.[9]

Amid the nation's collective fury and mounting pressure on politicians, the South Korean parliament unanimously passed the "Dogani Bill" in October 2011, which eliminates the statute of limitations for sex crimes against children under 13 and disabled women; the bill also increases the maximum penalty to life in prison.

This movie left me beyond depressed and angry. The only thing that can calm me down is the  impact it left on Korean laws against sexual offenders.

The outrage surrounding the film has sparked calls for sexual offenders to be prosecuted more severely, and for the statute of limitations to be removed altogether.
