On the afternoon of October 10th, Sina entertainment contacted Luhan’s closest friend Gao Su Yao, and immediately conducted an exclusive interview with him. Gao Su Yao further confirmed with Sina Luhan’s reasons behind leaving, and revealed under Sina’s questioning that Luhan strongly desires to be at home and spend time with his parents, that is an important reason he decided to terminate his contract: “Actually this decision was quite sudden, it was when he was sick and returned to Beijing. Luhan really liked the feeling of living with his family, he’s been overseas for too many years, and never had time to be with his parents, the company also has strict rules about going home on vacations, even if he has no work he’s not allowed to go home….â€

The news of Luhan’s contract termination caused large waves as soon as it was released and drew attention from fans, press, and industry people. Sina Entertainment also contacted Luhan’s closest friend Gao Su Yao today afternoon and conducted an exclusive interview. From our understanding, Gao Su Yao was Luhan’s classmate in high school, and the two of them got along very well; they became friends who talked about everything. Even though Luhan left to study in Korea in his last year of high school, and then became a trainee and successfully debuted, even though in the past years “people come and goâ€, Gao Su Yao, whom Luhan never broke contact with, is still one of his most trusted friends.

During the interview, Lao Gao further confirmed with Sina Luhan’s personal reason for the contract termination, and revealed under Sina’s questioning, that although there are many rumors and guesses, and the truth is there really were many factors that caused for this to happen, but the real reason Luhan came to this step is actually quite “suddenâ€. The deciding factor was not long ago, “Actually this decision was quite sudden, it was when he was sick and returned to Beijing. Luhan really liked the feeling of living with his family, he’s been overseas for too many years, and never had time to be with his parents, the company also has strict rules about going home on vacations, even if he has no work he’s not allowed to go home, and he has to stay in Seoul. This time when he came home, he realized that his parents have gotten old, and need him by their side. This is the most important reason for him.â€

On September 11th, Luhan posted a Weibo to apologize to fans “Due to excessive exhaustion over a long period of time, I’ve been having persistent headaches, sleeping problems, and I feel dizzy often. The doctor insisted that I rest for a while. I cannot attend the Thailand concert. I’m really really sorry.†After that he rested at home, and on 9/20 and 9/21 he attended EXO’s last Asia tour stop in Beijing.

According to our sources, Luhan’s reasons for contract termination are as follows:

1) The company cannot provide a detailed future plan

2) Difference in treatment for Chinese and Korean members

3) Schedules were not assigned reasonably

4) Health problems due to overwork and stress.

Sina probed into the details during the interview, but because it was related to the lawsuit, Lao Gao did not want to comment, and said that his reasons came down to not being on the same page with his company: “There are lots of reasons, but the most important is probably that they do not have the same ideals. The company’s way of doing things did not take the members’ individual desires into account at all. To give a small example, he has very serious acrophobia, and without it affecting his work, he hopes to fly direct when possible instead of going back and forth, that way he can shorten his flight times and lessen his mental stress. But this request was almost never approved. Many reasonable long-term requests he wanted to discuss were never approved, so he felt very disheartened.â€

Regarding Luhan’s acrophobia, Sina was able to find some information from Luhan’s past schedules after this interview. For example, one time for “Happy Camp†recording, Luhan joked that he was the most scared in the group, “because I’m afraid of heights, I’ll get nervous even in the elevator, don’t even mention airplanes. And we always fly back and forth for our schedules, so every day I’m very anxious. It’s laughable when you say it, but to this day I have yet to go on a rollercoaster, I’m scared to.â€

Luhan himself knows that his action taken will put him under a lot of pressure, and it will be a long and slow process. But for the sake of going home, he is determined. When asked about whether Luhan is ready for the storm of comments, Lao Gao replied that Luhan’s mindset is very good right now, “his biggest wish is for fans to not worry about him, and he will rest well to adjust his body condition during this period.â€

if he's really ill and just wants to go home and be with his parents, then he should go and I wish the best for him. nothing wrong with not being able to handle idol life.

I just hope he doesn't do a Kris and magically recover overnight and start doing individual activities all of a sudden after reportedly being at death's door beforehand... lol I'm so jaded now

I respect his decision to want to go home because he is homesick and he cannot reach satisfying terms with SM. I hope his fans are not selfish and say they wish he would stay in Exo. They should be, instead, happy that leaving is his choice and its for the better. Im sure this is not the last time we will hear from him- not when he has a bright future panned out for him in China.

Kudos to him for making the effort to stay until after Exo's tour finished. He tried but his health was in jeopardy.

Unlike a certain someone whose name starts with K, Luhan has shown he has in mind his fans and fellow members all along.

2) Difference in treatment for Chinese and Korean members

If this is true, it won't surprise me at all if the rest of the Chinese members leave too. Probably sooner rather than later.

Just like Korean media, shit stirring on Chinese media side as well.

1) SM obviously has plans for EXO, Japan debut, more albums and more tours. If Luhan got encouraged by his individual movie opportunity, good for him but then that's him interrupting SM's plan. I don't know how negotiations between SM and Luhan went so I'm not taking sides.

And about EXO-M in China? Yes it's bumpy and seemingly problematic. The Chinese entertainment industry isn't really solid and doing business with Chinese can seem pretty shady and dubious. Seems like SM can't even properly distribute their album in China for the en masses and lazy/ casual fans to buy through proper channel. It's always the same few programs inviting KPOP idols because SM can trust them to handle their idols well, Korean and Chinese. Even SJ-M got some blatant racist bs from Taiwanese hosts. Some big name corporations have issues doing business in China, let alone SM which is a mere KPOP powerhouse. But at the end of the day, the Chinese members went to train and later debut at SM knowing full well that SM is Korean.

2) Oh pulling the race card! How classy! Since debut Luhan has received alot of opportunities in EXO, if not the most. IDK what is SM's treatment of them behind the camera so I'm not gonna judge.

Don't give me that "all koreans are racist!!!!!" bullshit. Koreans are nationalistic and fiercely protective of their own culture but they don't provoke for no reason. Koreans clearly understand and bond with each other easily and get along well. It's the same everywhere, similar people will just click better. If you ask me, the Korean EXO members seem to treat the Chinese alright. Besides, Chinaline had each other.

"but look at Hangeng! look at Kris!" Hangeng was the 1st Chinese, I'm sure his migration was especially hard. Kris was just selfish and shady I'm not gonna bother discussing about him.

Okay?

If I wanted to find out how Kris is doing, I would have asked but I dont care to. Guess you just wasted a block of text to uncaring ears.

Thanks for your concern for Luhan fans. I am not one though.

Why isnt he allowed to do individual activities according to some users here. It is clearly said that the biggest reason for him to leave is that sm doesnt care for their individual desires and not for health reasons. Probably too much stress with the tight schedule

Kris have never said he is sick! When you guys will freaking understand????

I get it, you hate him but accusing him with things is not helping Luhan!Ohh and check out the facts before you posting about things you don't even know.Or if you have receipts about Yifan being "at death's door" then please show them to us.

I don't know what part of "difference in treatment for Chinese and Korean members" you don't understand. It obviously means Korean members are prioritised or favoured over Chinese members in terms of promotion, activities or even just treatment in general. We don't know what happens behind closed doors. But if more than just one person says it's true, then what reason do we have to not consider it plausible?

Well serving them some cold hard truth but people are just extreme, if SM sucks at something they must be totally bad. It's like these people have no reasoning skills and just choose to sit on the extreme end of one side of the fence. Just because I'm not bashing SM that's why I should get negged. In fact I am a SM hater. I am concerned about how they overwork their idols, doesn't listen to them enough and reason with them properly. They clearly have the ability to make their groups popular and help individual members stand out but I feel like they don't communicate well the idols and soothe out any frustrations. I care and I care for each and every idol of SM, including Shindong which is quite possibly my least favorite of the lot.

Promotions? Like clearly Luhan is promoted A L O T. like A L O T A L O T A L O T. If there's a Chinese member that can complain about promotions it should be Lay (but recently SM lets him appear in quite a handful of Chinese stuffs). But lbr some of his dancing opportunities were snatched by Luhan who's a Chinese.

I never follow Hangeng closely so correct me if I'm wrong but he never said he was treated badly because of race. Yes he complained about mistreatment but when giving an example of the IV drip, he also mentioned Siwon. Siwon is Korean am I right?

Kris is Kris. So much mess revolving around his departure. It being one week before EXO's concert, having rumours of heart problems, later turned out that he has acting offers immediately after he left, EXO members' reactions...alot of mess. So much rumours and shit stirring so forgive me if I choose to dismiss everything altogether.
