I really don't listen to country music, but I love Dolly!! lol

I grew up on classic country, and Dolly's my mom's all-time favorite, so I've been a fan all my life. Lately, though, I'm starting to like her more and more. What's your favorite Dolly song?

I only heard about her when I was like in 8th grade? My friend started playing her album "New Harvest/First Gathering" album, and I liked the song 'You are". Idk I think I like 'You are' 'Jolene' *ofcourse* and Islands in the Stream (cause it's fun to sing in the karaoke).

"You Are" is so beautiful. *__*

I love her song "Appalachian Memories," too. That, "Coat of Many Colors," and for upbeat songs, maybe "Applejack." XD Oh, and I love "Try" from her new album. XD and of course "I Will Always Love You." XD

I like Applejack too and yes "I will always love you". My friend and I would argue with another friend of ours about how much whitney's version is nothing in comparison to Dolly's. haha

Personally, I feel as if Whitney's version misses the emotion of the song. Dolly's music has a connection and a tenderness that Whitney missed in her version, I think.

Omg I didn't mean to downvote you!  :omg:  I agree, my friend argued that whitney's version is more emotional because of her voice but I think dolly's voice is actually more emotional because of how tender it was. Plus i love the 'twang' in her voice.

It's fine! Don't worry.

Yeah, Dolly's voice is definitely more emotional for me. Whitney sings it with a lot of power, so maybe that resonates with some people, and that's good for them, but think it lost the whole point. I actually never even heard Whitney's version until here back, maybe two or three years ago. XD

For me, I don't so much hear the twang because I'm used to people talking/singing like that, but it feels more personal because she's singing in an accent that's so close to home to me. Being up at university has made me really associate the Southern accent with home, so listening to Dolly is so comforting/nostalgic at the same time now.  :rlytearpls:

I think that's so lovely!!! I find it kind of cool that we have opposing reasons why we like dolly. You because it's familiar/comforting and for me it's because it's unfamiliar/unique. lol
