So there is no official Star Trek thread (that i've seen, if there is give me a heads up)... so I thought i'd make one.

Not an "Official One" with pictures and all the casts mind you... i'm too lazy for that. But one where we trekkies can chat for today at least. lol

So trekkies and non-trekkies alike, do you have favourite series, a favourite character, favourite villain, favourite portrayal?

Do you like the movies?

Personally:

Favourite Series: Star Trek Voyager

voyager.jpg

Favourite Captain :Captain Benjamin Sisko

Favourite Character:  tie between Seven of Nine and Data

Favourite Villain : Q

Favourite Portrayal : I feel like a traitor but I've definitely been enjoying Zachary Qinto as spock ( I know).

I probably have a favourite everything, fav vulcan, fav klingon, fav romulan, fav plot twist....but i'm just going to keep it simple for now.

So... what about you?

lol at enterprise not even being an option (A)

Fave series: DS9 & Voyager, I remember saving my money for 3 months and every 3 months a new season of Voyager was released on DVD and then I was broke again.

Fave Captain: Jean-Luc Picard, because bald and beautiful, that's why

Fave Character: changes every few weeks. Ask again later

Fave villian: Borg.

Fave portrayal: Leonard Nimoy's Spock is arguably the most iconic TV performance in the history of television

Fave movie: First Contact & Wrath of Khan. Love the new movies, but my mind cannot process them as Star Trek movies...

i honestly dont know much about any of the others. i only know about the original series and i love watching it [and the jaw dropping effects lol]

i tend to refer to tng as "that star trek version with professor x" until someone reminds me the name. kind of embarrassing, but i do

and i reallly like the recent star trek movie series pickup. though i still havent gotten to see into darkness....i really need to go do that

There was a topic on an American TV SHOW (60 Minutes) stating that if you are STAR TREK lover it means you are a brainy individual ;)

I'm quite surprised people are picking Voyager as their favourite. I thought it got boring pretty quickly, about the time they abandoned the Kazons.

I really really liked it, their direct up close and personal battles with the Borg.

Their struggles with the Prime Directive. The little town the kept in their holodeck.

Janeway was badass, she was a captain and woman and neither thing was forgotten. She wasn't a weaker captain because she was a woman, but she wasn't stone cold either. She did her best with what she had. And the episodes dealing with time were cool, there were some really creative episodes.

It got really interesting near the end as they got closer and closer to home.

And they did pretty well when it came to continuity.

Maybe it's a gay boy speaking, maybe just a boy, but Janeway did nothing for me -- even though I adore Kate Mulgrew in Dragon Age. She was too stuck up for me, too dry. How they dealt with the Borg I disliked, they downgraded them way too much. And I thought there were too many domestic episodes, with weak characters going nowhere. I vastly preferred Deep Space Nine with its colourful inventiveness and political intrigue.

I like Deep Space Nine as well, though I've yet to finish it.

But Voyager was my first, so it and it's characters are close to my heart.

I listed Sisko as my favourite "Captain". lol

Speaking of Voyager, does anybody know where I can get the old European DVD boxsets? All I can find are the new boring ones, I want the beautiful, luxurious boxsets. I still miss Season 5 and Season 7

Oh yeah, Sisko's cool. He has the right combination of brains and brawn, plus he can get deliciously angry. As a kid, I found Picard too teacher-like, too distant -- Kirk and Sisko, that's where it was at.

Favourite Series: Deep Space Nine. I loved the plot, and Quark was hilarious. XD

Favourite Captain: Jean-Luc Picard.

Favourite Character: Voyager's Emergency Medical Hologram. One of the only two good characters in that series, the other one being Seven of Nine.

Favourite Villain: The Borg.

Favourite Portrayal: Leonard Nimoy as Spock.

Okay, can I say something that will get me killed? I don't like the original series. It may have been okay for the 1960s, but some episodes of it are just too fucking campy. XD I like Spock (who doesn't?), but the series itself is... meh. If Gene Roddenberry didn't have to dumb it down because of executive meddling, it would've been better.

Enterprise is not as bad as some say. The whole "prequel" concept was handled poorly, but the series got better in its last seasons. However, it was cancelled before it had the chance to become decent, and they killed Trip Tucker. I kind of shipped him and T'Pol. T_T Hell, Connor Trinneer (Trip) and Jolene Blalock (T'Pol) themselves hated what they did to their characters. >_>

Voyager wasn't bad, but it could've been better. The premise was interesting, a crew of a Federation vessel cooperating with a crew of rebels/terrorists thousands of light years away from home, but they botched both the first part of said premise (the Maquis became fully integrated with the main crew in no time) and the second (come on, they're lost in space and most of the alien species they encounter are hostile, but it really didn't seem like that). Captain Janeway, while competent, was probably schizophrenic due to poor writing (she could be more righteous than Picard one moment and a complete asshole the very next moment), and most of the other characters except from the Doctor and Seven of Nine were one-dimensional.

I agree, TOS is great by reputation mostly. It has it's episodes... but for the most part you can't go from TNG or DS9 to TOS and be like oh this is "AMAZING".

But if you saw TOS first, I think it would put it's brand on your heart.

honestly I thought there'd be more trekkies, but I guess this is a kpop forum and not a Star Trek forum. lol

Some of TOS is good, but yeah, some parts are silly, and the effects look really cheesy now. I think it's the movies where the original crew really shines. I loved them as a kid for the action, the sci-fi, that kind of thing. Recently I went on a Star Trek film marathon, with no feeling of nostalgia at all, after all those years -- and yet I was surprised how much I liked them, but this time for the characters and their interaction. I just love how those movies were made back then: slower and well-written, humanist in their attitude, firm in their form.

Tos is my favourite, but yea, very campy and the effects are really outdated now. Imo its worth watching for some of the great episodes they had and the characters.
