Leaning on the railing, unable to see through the capricious changes

Unable to calculate the circulation of time

Unable to walk across the land beyond the Great Wall

Poetry, unable to finish writing the multitude of entanglement

The countless, hundreds and thousands of patrolling round

Endless glory, joy and sorrow of a lifetime

How many can last forever

Many years after, eternal wind flows into the sea

Merits and demerits has gone with the wind and still returned

Allowing fame and fortune to crumble into ashes and dusts

Let the history book be engraved with your elegant demeanor

For many season and generations, (we) sing the praises of that unparalelled manner and deportment of a generation

With a snap of the finger, beard and hair grayed, facial appearance changed

Protecting the mirror at the back of the Jiangshan

As regime changes over time

Only you, are irreplaceable

Hope we can hold hands and jointly go beyond the highest heavens

Only you, are irreplaceable

The sea bustlingly bloomed in between the sky and the earth

Translator's Notes:

æ±Ÿå±±èƒŒåŽ (jiÄng shÄn bèi hòu) - this is the opening song of the Chinese drama,「å«åå¤« (wèi zi fÅ«)ã€or known in English as ã€ŒThe Virtuous Queen of Hanã€

* 江山 (jiÄng shÄn) - literally means rivers and mountains, but it's used to refer to a conquered territory, which may be a country, a state, or a piece of land. When you refer a territory as your Jiangshan, it means you are the throne and you hold absolute state power over that territory

å¡žåŒ—ä¸Žæ±Ÿå— (sài bÄ›i yÇ” jiÄng nán) - this is actually a Chinese idiom å¡žåŒ—æ±Ÿå— (sài bÄ›i jiÄng nán), originally refers to the He Lan Mountain area in the ancient state of Liang Zhou (å¤å‡‰å·ž). Now its used to refer to "the rich land beyond the Great Wall"

ä¹éœ„云外 (jiÇ” xiÄo yún wài) - literally means beyond the Cloud Nine/highest heaven, but its actually used to refer to somewhere far, far away
