How about Square-Enix saying they'll be spending more money on advertising and less on actual game development. Seems we can expect the Final Fantasy brand to get milked even more!!!

I'm not really a fan of the FF series, so excuse my shade. Of course high development costs does not equal quality, but still it's an interesting statement.

 

The problem is... even when SE does release good games like Tomb Raider, it doesn't sell as much as they'd expect the game to sell. So they probably want to be more aggressive with their advertising tactics. And anyway I think advertising in general just costs more than actual production costs for a game.

 

Also, as much as intl fans of the FF don't like the way the franchise is nowadays... it's still doing well in Japan, probably one of the biggest reasons why, for the most part, they ignore intl fans' opinions.

i didn't like Symphonia very much and never played the Wii one but even my friend who's a big Tales fan doesn't like that one.

Another thing with square enix. They just said that they will focus more on smartphone gaming...smh. Sad to see them go this way..I remember when square were JRPG kings with great classic JRPGS like Chrono Trigger but companies like Atlus and Monolith soft have easily took that title by now.

 

They make people wait 8 years for a certain final fantasy game... even more for Kingdom hearts 3 while other JRPG companies have been giving us amazing, innovative JRPGS this whole time and will hopefully continue to do so while sqaure will be making games for your iphones.

i don't have a problem with them doing smartphone games because mobile gaming makes money and they need money. What they need to do is to make a non-FF rpg. Just having the name FF i think gives them too much pressure to make the best graphics and cutscenes because it's what they've always done the best. But that drives up the cost to make the game and then needs too much sales to make a profit. They could then focus on the gameplay more and people will judge the games more fairly than the 13 games have been.

 

I will not be going anywhere near the new xbox even if all the rumors are false. They've shown they don't care about games with the number of exclusives they have. And even their arcade games aren't as good as they once were.

I hate smartphone games. I hate micro-transactions. I think it's horrible, a scam and it should be illegal.

Not that all smartphone/mobile games use that, but when I look at the top grossing games and I see these disgusting games at the top I smh.

 

Squeenix is already being judged by me, with the way they rereleased the 3DS game Theatrhythm. A game that was $40 on the 3DS, rereleased for free on ios but you would end up spending over $100 to actually buy all the songs that came in the 3DS game.

and [email protected] need to make a great Non-FF Game. Take notes from XenoBlade, Ni No Kuni, and help revive JRPGS but of course that likely isn't going to ever happen...especially since they plan to spend the wide majority of their resources on mobile games....

 

And how does 4 mil copies sold of a $60 game end up being a loss/not meet expectation anyway. WTF. For anyone else that would have been a huge hit.

On the whole smartphone deal, I think for now developers will be trying it out since it has become a hot market.

 

If anything it'll probably take a large chunk out of the mobile gaming marketing (which I'm sure it has), I think long run wise, there will always be a group of people who still want to play games at home. The experiences are way too different.

Atm, none. Currently PS4 lineup has not impress me, and the how their pushing with the Vita gimmick is unappealing to me. The Xbox rumors of being online constantly is gonna be a big deal to me, after that, what are they gonna offer in terms of games?

 

 

Those issues aside, I probably won't pick them up until at least their 2nd or 4th generation update. Looking at the past console generation, you know their gonna release different versions of the system to fixed out whatever issues that happens along the way. Me and my roommates didn't get either Xbox 360 or PS3 till at least 3-5 years of their lifespan.

smartphone gaming isn't my thing and i doubt i'll be getting the PS4 within it's first year of release

 

in regards to FF i'll probably be skipping Lightning Returns, i just have no interest in 13 anymore

 

the current state of square enix is just too upsetting

Honestly speaking. They should have just left Grand Theft Auto V for the PS4 release as the dates pretty much coincide with one another...

the PS4 is capable of (in relation to the open world of GTA games and the updated graphics and such).

 

I don't really like how they're promoting the Vita so much either.. it just feels like they're using the PS4 to try and beat out Nintendo in the

Portable gaming world (Which will NEVER happen, so they should just stop trying).

I hate smart phone gaming... I downloaded Final Fantasy theatrhythm for the iPhone and compared it to the one

on the Nintendo 3DS. And while the smartphone one had more features and content.. it just couldn't compare in the

slightest to the one that was on the 3DS (which was the original one). Uhhh.. I just hate that it's becoming the popular

way to play games...

Smartphone gaming is intended for people who aren't really gamers tbh. I don't even know what to call people like that... It all started with Facebook apps/games I think. They got so popular, even my friend (who is a gamer) started complaining about her mom being on the computer all the time playing FB games like Farmville, lol.

I would wait till E3 b4 making a decision on Next-Gen, since most of the games are suppose to be announced there. 

 

Also apparently Rockstar has a ground breaking next gen title to announce soon(although they won't be At E3)..and a pipeline of next-gen sequals to IP'S that we already know...Possibly LA Noire, Bully, RDR

Watch dogs is gonna be on all consoles including Wii U btw.

not all smartphone games are bad. There are actually some games that are really polished and feel like a console experience.

games like Infinity Blade II, Horn, Dead Trigger, etc.

I own this for WII lol. Its not bad but yeah it could be better.

i wish DDS was more focused on story. It's like dungeon, boss, short story cutscene, then repeat. I like the gameplay and it's pretty cool but that structure makes it hard for me to get into and play for long periods. That's why i like Persona so much, after a dungeon you could chill and hang out with your friends and do social links It just has better pacing and balance.

 

anyways did you guys hear about EA dropping online passes. I never understood the hate on online passes. I thought $10 is actually pretty reasonable of a price and you could just buy the games new to avoid that. I never had to buy one so it never bothered me.

The look of a system is not a big deal to me. I rather they spend time making a good system inside than outside, too bad that's not the case anymore.

 

Game wise, I don't buy a lot of exclusives, most games I bought during the last 2 years have been multi-platform. I mainly buy the Xbox version, since that is the one I bought (though I share it with a roommate who I share the PS3 with), unless of course they offer something the other version doesn't have. The only exclusives I've bought for each system was Gears of War for xbox and Uncharted for PS3.

Don't worry, you ain't the only one. This is the 3rd time for me in terms of fighting games. SF4 and MK both got repacks and I wasn't too happy.

 

I'm just hoping DOA5U will be at least dlc available or at least discount price if on disc. And I really want to buy Injustice, but I have this feeling a repack is coming.
