It's a interesting subject, I suppose.

Normally, you got to make survey about consumers/new product, design a marketing plan and make presentation, sort of a marketing research. You learn why some brands choose celebrity to advertise while others dont need to do so. One of my assignment:  how the downfall of Tiger Woods's image have affected on the brand he endorsed.

But it also has quite a lot of theories to memorize though.

it requires creativity and an extrovert personality. I have friends in marketing and they tell me it's easier than other business majors.

i was thinking in majoring in Graphic Design but the thing is that alot of people have warned me about it saying that their is rarely any jobs for it meaning i wont be able to find a job for it lol.

Soo i was thinking i should go for marketing since it is similar to it lol

It's not a difficult major per se, but the hardest part is having the personality for it if you want to use it once you graduate. I'm not using my degree, mostly because I realized I don't like selling people stuff and I'm not extroverted AT ALL. I enjoyed the statistics and gathering information part of it, but not the other parts. Sooo make sure you really enjoy that if that's what you want to do.

Definitely easier compare to other business majors, like accounting or economic.

Fun but requires a lot of presentation, creativity and usually have many projects. Personally I think if you take marketing it can build your self confidence as well. But then I live in Australia, so I dont really know the uni life in other countries :)

Its one of the easiest business majors. Im taking a marketing class right now. Not hard at all. If you're talking about a hard business major~ i say its accounting & MIS & economics! I'm taking accounting right now & im struggling so hard~

& btw~ if you are worrying about getting a job~ just fyi marketing is consider the least job prospect of any business majors. Basically its very hardto get a job in marketing and there's not much of it. Many of my college professor & mentors tell me over and over again finding a job in marketing is very hard. But if you're on top, creative, and have many years of experience~ you can defiently find one. It all depends on you!

The studying aspect is easier than other business majors in some ways, but if you are not good at customer service and presentations, I would advice you not to choose it. You also have to be competitive.

But I don't see how it's similar to graphic design  :derp:

Well they do go hand and hand, since they are both involved with creativity lol

Except Marketing is a bit more on the business side and Graphic Design is on the Art side lol

So you want to choose something that requires using your creativity...If you don't mind me asking, what are your strong subjects and which subjects interest you the most?

In that case, I think Economics might be a better fit for you since it needs a combination of good math skills + creative thinking. It has better job prospects with higher pay than marketing too usually. Good writing is always an asset. Maybe you can talk to a career counselor to explore more options.

Marketing doesn't have great prospects. Economics, on the other hand, does. Your maths skills will go to waste with Marketing, whereas with Econ, you'll definitely be doing quite a lot of statistics at least and other stuff like derivatives (I think). Failing that, Accounting. Economics is your best bet, though. It's considered a strong degree.

Sure, there are loads of Marketing jobs but Econ is more 'respected' and has a higher salary on average. It also opens more doors. Marketing as a degree is also very specific.
