Ailee not an idol but an artist?

Yes and no. She promotes like a classic idol but because she goes on Immortal Song all the time and Koreans recognise her talent, she's a ~singer~ not an ~idol~ to a lot of them, at least what it looks like.

yes cause she can't really dance

She doesn't need to dance when she can out-sing everyone in K-Pop

Basically all of this, but especially the last bit. No one comes close.

Ailee is a lyricist and an idol and she's growing into a full on artists. She's done some compositions but most of the stuff that she comes out with are with help from people. Plus to those that think AILEE can't dance please watch some of her other performances. She does ballet and is really an amazing dancer let alone her vocals are beyond many in the KPOP scene. Also she can also rap hmm. Ailee is just queen XD

Just because she sings well doesn't mean she's not an idol. Her platform to stardom, the way she is marketed to the public...Everything about her is just as manufactured as any idol groups out there. Even IU who can sing, compose and decide her own musical direction is considered an idol, so why Ailee is an exception?

Idk I consider everyone who works on his own songs an artist tbh. Kpop singer are underrated when it comes to this. It doesn't matter if the song doesn't fit your taste or you think the song sucks, if the singer worked on it he is an artist. Ailee does write some songs, they just don't make it in the album because they probably aren't public friendly or in english xD

Same goes for dancing or singing, those are artistic talents or not? Idk this is just how I see it. Many dols are artists imo.

Did I answer the question? Hm... I think she is an idol and an artist.

In my opinion she's an idol. I think artists have more freedom/choice in the way they want to be marketed, their songs (writing, composing...).

Just because she can sing doesn't make her an artist. I think being an artist and talent don't necessarily have a link.

The fact that she's an idol doesn't mean she's not talented either.

Younha used to be an idol-artist. How did she shake off the "idol"? I think:

1. After she left her ex-company, she was no longer victim of a merciless schedule and unfair terms

2. She wrote quite a few songs already (having the privilege of arranging songs in the studio)

3. She can make decisions to accept or reject songs written/composed for her

4. She keeps contact with senior singers and composers

5. She goes on "I Am A Singer" and got respect

6. Scandal free (or well hidden  :har: )

7. Went on lots of ambassadorship events (e.g. UN Peace Day, Charities)

8. Avoided variety shows (painful for fans T.T)

9. Been a judge on singing contests for a few times

10. She mostly sells her songs instead of a visual image (no dance at all)

I'm not talking about my definition of artist here, just what I think is Korea's perception of it
